Rebuilding Year For Fans!

This is a place to come and speak honestly and hopefully clear-headedly about what our impressions are of the team. Those impressions aren't good. If you have good impressions, I think you're kidding yourself.

Just because people criticize here does not make them bad fans. Most Huskers fans spend Saturdays cheering and trying to will their team to victory (and those people booing at the Ball St. game don't deserve to call themselves fans). The fact that disappointment runs so deep is testament to what good fans Big Red Nation has.

I'm going to play devils advocate and sit on the fence and watch this one because I go back and forth on what's right and what's wrong. I can't make up my mind. :dunno

I think it's interesting that all these big 'fans' haven't even been fans on this board for better than a year. Talk a good game, but only come out of the woodwork when the sh*t hits the fan.

"I've been to this game and that game!" "Back when the Huskers meant something!"

Who cares.

Join up and hate! You were a fan once, here's your chance to belittle at will! Don't worry, you can massacre with ease, boycott everything 'Husker," and once everything is 'back to normal', you will come out smelling like roses and no one will ever doubt your allegiance to the Huskers.

It's so convenient, isn't it?

I am a UNL graduate, grew up in Nebraska during all the great times, cried in the early 80's, celebrated in college in the mid-nineties, and mire in this thing now. And here I am now, and appalled since my friends aren't willing to watch the game with me this week due to what has transpired over the last month, I will go by myself and cheer on the Huskers at a location by myself. That's just how it is.

Maybe NU will never recover. Maybe they'll always be plagued by bad play and bad luck. That's ok. I may be frustrated, but I'll stand by them.

But maybe they will recover. Maybe not this year, maybe not the next. But maybe they will dominate, just start destroying anything around them. Just messing up people, having fun again, making Mark May look stupid as usual, making ESPN have to show Husker highlights against their will, pissing off the rest of the country.

Thank God I'll be able to say....

I stuck with Nebraska...the team...the whole way, no matter what.

What will you be able to say with a clear conscience.
Who made Foppa the "arbiter of Big Red Fandom" here on the board?

I haven't liked Bill Callahan since he completely hosed my beloved silver and black...

And when I heard he was going to be the head coach, my heart sank. And the introduction of the "West Crap Offense" was just another shot in the gut. That just proved to me that he's an ego maniac, and that him coming to Nebraska, introducing a new offense, would put his mark on Big Red football, just made it a ego trip for him...

Where all he's managed to to is take a storied program, and "jump the shark"...

That the one thing I've liked about him nothing like seeing Faider fans crying. :)

we're 2-2, and by the simple fact that the AFC west sucks, we're in first place for the first time in a while, so i'm not complaining...

Okay, I gave it my best. I was hoping that last week was just one of a number of flukes, but I was apparently wrong. Still a fan, but man . . . those coaches are in complete and utter freefall.

Watching last week's game, and watching this week's game, this is my opinion of what's happening (keeping in mind that I'm obviously dumber than a monkey on a rock):

The team hates the coaching staff. Maybe not the entire coaching staff, but there is complete division on this team. Every player hates some coach, and that is probably because the coaches don't even like each other. There's a lot of blaming going on, and it wouldn't surprise me if communication has essentially shut down among the coaching staff.

Have you ever seen a team sabotage itself? It happens, and that is exactly what is going on now. Yes, many players grade well. Yes, they are in their designated zones and gaps. And yes, they remain there as the ball carrier glides by them, or as a defensive lineman steps sideways. They say to themselves, "Yup, that's exactly what you told me to do, coach," and they look at the sideline and slowly walk back to the huddle.

The players do not trust the system, and they have given up on the coaches. There is no leadership, but there are pockets of angry players.

The coaches, sensing a hostile public environment, stick with the few players that still seem to like them, and that's why those same players continue to play no matter what.

That's why Sam Keller plays every down. That's why Marlin Lucky played so long.

I admit it. The season's over, and the best we can hope for is a rapid turnover in Husker staff. The sooner the better, but unfortunately NU is in paralysis; there is very little that can be done with Pederson at the helm.

Ideally, you get Pellini as head coach. I dislike the man completely, but he is a heck of a coach. He might consider it after LSU's loss tonight, but he will never do it so long as Pederson is AD.

Fire Callahan and have Osborn serve as interim coach for the rest of the season. Admit the season has blown up, and start administering first aid.

I hate to say it, but you guys were right.

Go Big Red, anyway.
