You should be looking at the 247 Composite. It takes into account the 247, Rival, Scout, and ESPN rankings.

Somewhere I posted Bo's 247 Composite rankings, but I can't find them. They weren't the greatest. He had 1 "great" class (teens), then a buch in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Ya I only mentioned Scout because I remembered one of their guys tweeting our class ranking. 247 composite should be the gauge,imo.

My concern right now is the DE and DT positions. LB has been a HUGE upgrade. QB has been a HUGE upgrade. I have no doubt Coach Williams will be able to recruit wideouts. He just hasn't had the time to build the relationships over time yet. Cavanaugh will get good O-Linemen. Riley's system will attract good TE's. DB we will be fine. We have Dismuke who will be good. Holmes has us in his top group and he is the #2 CB for 2017. This class is lacking at DB because a lot of recruits were already choosing their schools slightly after Riley came on board. He didn't have time to develop relationships with the Sophomores and Juniors for this class. Like I said, my concern is at DT and DE. I haven't heard one thing about coach Hughes... we don't seem to have that many DT offers out and we don't seem to be in the top 5 of many highly ranked prospects. I realize we have a good depth there right now and one off year won't kill us, but it does concern me.

I agree -- DE and DT is on everyone's minds. I'd add DB to the equation, too; I mean, we shall see. But coach Hughes is my biggest worry. Everything else seems to be moving very positively.

If you look at the OV's scheduled... there is not one D-Lineman. Not one. We have 3-4 db's scheduled to visit who are high on us. They all have size and speed so they have a lot of potential.

4* DT Chris Daniels is still interested in us.

Our staff hasn't shown much interest in DT Garrett Rand and he had some others above us anyways.

3* DT Stephon Taylor is interested in us and we are recruiting him hard.

3* Malik Walker is also being recruited by us.

That's pretty much it at the DT position.

At DE...

We're recruiting Carlo Kemp, who is high on Stanford and Michigan.

Conor Murphy who we have a shot at.

Noah Fant - who many feel will end up at Nebraska.

Amani Bledsoe who we still have a shot with.

Justin Madubuike - who has shown good interest in us.

Mykelle McDaniel - who has shown good interest in us.

Based on current news. It looks like the guys highest on us are Noah Fant, Justin Madubuike, Mykelle McDaniel, Stephon Taylor, Chris Daniels, and Maliek Walker.

You seem to marginalize his resume....so what are you using?

The effort seems amazing, there's no doubt about that. There's a chance it's just how all other big time programs actually do things and we just weren't used to it. But effort without the awesome results that we all want is a problem. So that's why I'm hoping they end up with a top 20 top 15 class

Hughes was co-recruiter for Alexander out of NJ. That is his area and he was the guy that let Bray know about Alexander.

As far as being an average coach. Maybe you should go look at his defenses while he was DC and who he coached.

The 2012 season saw the Husky defense ranked as one of the finest in school history as the unit ranked seventh in the country in rushing, ninth in total defense and 19th in scoring defense. Defensive end Trevardo Williams was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.

In 2011, UConn's rushing defense was ranked fourth in the country and first in the BIG EAST. Defensive lineman Kendall Reyes was named First Team All-BIG EAST for the second year in a row. In 2010, his defense was ranked 28th in the country and fourth in the BIG EAST in pass efficiency defense and was also ranked 35th in the country in scoring defense. Following the 2009 season, he was named the Assistant Coach of the Year by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston.

The UConn defense finished the 2008 season ranked sixth in the country and first in the BIG EAST Conference in total defense at 278.00 yards per game and was also ninth in passing efficiency defense (first in BIG EAST), 16th in rushing defense (second in BIG EAST) and 22nd in scoring defense (third in BIG EAST).

Under Hughes, UConn led the BIG EAST in total defense in each of its first two seasons in the league. The Huskies finished seventh in the nation in 2006, averaging 297.1 yards per game in total defense while also ranking fourth in passing defense and seventh in passing efficiency defense. The Huskies used their stout defense to gain the 2007 BIG EAST Championship with the team ranking in the top 17 nationally in passing defense, passing efficiency defense and scoring defense.

In 2002, the Huskies' first Division I-A season, Hughes defense ranked fifth in the nation in passing defense (160.4 yards per game), 18th in passing efficiency defense (102.44 rating) and 19th in total defense (316.1 yards per game). The Huskies ranked 23rd nationally by forcing 32 turnovers.

UConn continued this defensive success in 2004 as the team led the BIG EAST in both total and passing defense en route to the program's first ever bowl berth, a 39-10 victory over Toledo in the Motor City Bowl. The leader of Hughes' defense, Alfred Fincher, became the first Husky drafted in 11 years.

The 2006 season saw defensive tackle Rhema Fuller become the first Husky to ever be a finalist for the Draddy Trophy.

Before coming to UConn, Hughes was the defensive line coach at the University of Memphis from 1998-2000. The Tigers finished the 2000 season as the No. 1 rated defense in Division I-A against the run (72.7 rushing yards allowed per game), fifth in the nation in total defense (275.3 yards per game) and 14th in scoring defense (18.1 points allowed per game).
