Recruiting is not an exact science

Great article Nameless. The anticipation of the upcoming season is awesome. These new recruits are going to open some eyes, and the great coaches we have in place now are as well. What's going to be really great is playing games and having more talent on the field than the opposition. That was rarely the case the past 2-3 years. The fact that this staff is putting in all the time and effort to succeed that was once present under TO is what makes the future look so bright. The Bears better run to their cave to hibernate, because we're gonna CRUSH THEM and I can't wait to see it happen!

As long as we're comparing coaches, TO lost 6 games in his career by more than 22 points. Frank lost 7 in his career. TO - 350+ games. Frank - 85 games.

Now, BC has 3 on his resume now (TT, KST, OU), but do you think he'll have 4 or more in his next 74 games? Once he gets his players in here, I don't think that will happen.

I'll say it before Anonymous User points it out. TO or Frankie never lost 70-10. I just figured I would save him the time. Although the Texas and K-State games in 03 the Defense gave up more yards then the Tech game in 04. Those scores in 03 would of been a lot worse if KSU and UT didn't run the ball so much. (Roberson also had over 300 yards passing)

How do you get:

By you saying that blake is the one who turned the Cowboys into a SB champ
Out of:

The NFL is extremely competitive and it is so hard to stay on top. If Blake was a part of 2 Super Bowl winning teams in 3 seasons, I think that solidifies him as, at THE VERY LEAST, a competent assistant. You can't say one coach got the best of his players and the other one was blessed with great players that won despite how terrible he was.
Or:

Your only argument for Blake not doing much is Charles Haley. OK, what about Leon Lett or Russell Maryland becoming pro-bowlers under his guidance? Yeah, I realize Maryland was the #1 pick in the '91 draft, but a player does not reach their potential without some proper coaching. These 2 guys had talent, yes, but Blake helped turned them into pro-bowlers.
That is EXACTLY what was said. Don't try and put words in my mouth or make inferences based on your own stupid logic.

You, yourself, the former one, stated that Wistrom was an All American before Barnes was there. Maryland and Lett were not Pro-Bowlers, until Blake came to D-town. Ok, this is where it gets tricky, before DOES NOT equal after. Therefore that comparison is moot. If you want to, I can go back and quote this for you if you wish, since scrolling up about 4 inches is so difficult.

Next time before you reply to a post use this process:

1. BREATHE. It is hard to read exactly what someone says while you are vibrating and turning blue.

2. Don't scream at your monitor, don't punch a wall, don't mutilate animals. They are not who you are angry with. You are angry with yourself for getting called on your own BS.

3. Let it go! If you were wrong, own up to it like a man, ya' know, grow a set as you say. People(myself included)respect others for being able to own up to their mistakes and it won't reflect negatively on you.

I am right, plain right. What is sad is your inablity to recognize that these guys are not good coaches, and give me credit for nailing this thing on the head.
Nice one, Farva.

As far as Lett and Maryland, I havent looked into the corresponding times with them and blake. You could be correct about that, and I dont know, so that is why I have not commented on them.

As far as the original take, IF blake was there when the 'Boys went 1-15, and helped right the ship and build the team, then you would have an argument. He DOES NOT deserve credit just for falling into an ideal situation, just like Barnes and Bohl did at NU. They dont deserve the credit for winning the NC in 97, just as blake doesnt deserve all the accolades that you want to heap on him for gravy-training a couple of SB rings in Dallas.

That is something that YOU need to man up, and admit that YOU are wrong about.

Agreed. But if my aunt had balls......

So the only way a coach can get any credit for anything he has done is take a bunch of nobody's and turn them into champion's correct? I mean, after all, what you are saying is that if the team has had any success in the last, say, 5 years, the coach is just "gravy training"?

Hmmm...and so by that "logic" by formerfan, we can now accurately rate Solich's tenure...
