Recruiting not going good

I think what EZ and I are both saying when it comes to the recruits that he is involved in is that the ball was more or less put on a tee for him. Rivals ask who is recruiting said kid and they post it. Like I had said when a recruit gets really interested or is a an early commit his future position coach becomes a lead. HOWEVER, if you had followed these guys for the last two years you'd see that their first primary recruiter was NOT Barney. Like EZ and I said someone else logged the dirty work. So of course it is going to look like Barney is involved with a lot of recruits when you bring in 5 OL and have a small class.

One last antedot to bring to the table. I have a friend that worked in the ISU football department when Barney was there. I have heard many a stories about him. One of the things that struck me funny was when I was told his area was Iowa/Nebraska because either he was a lazy recruiter or just that bad of a recruiter and Coach Mac didn't want him out on the road. This was debated among many in that athletic department.

We are going to just end up running circles around each other on this issue. We'll agree to disagree. I will be the first to chow on crow IF this guy would do something amazing, but until then "pushing" around REAL bad teams early and then fading down the stretch and getting owned up front against some really POOR teams(SDSU, KU) does not show me huge strides of improvement.

rivals lists cotton as primary or co-primary for four of the five. i am certainly not a proponent of the accuracy of recruiting salesmen, but i don't know enough to say that they're wrong either.

but when someone says something that is both incorrect and derogatory about one of our coaches, i am more than happy to set the record straight.

Listing Moore's offer list doesn't mean that Cotton did some amazing job stealing him from Florida. I guess I can't see how you've followed our O-Line recruiting and think in any way that what Cotton did this year was in impressive. Moore - lock. Reeves - lock. Sterup (once he finally go the offer) - lock. Klachko - credit Barney. Price - EKELER 100%

He landed Evans/Marsh/A-Rod last year. Did we think for even a second any of them would go somewhere else? All Barney does is sell cake (NU) to fat kids (NU boys). It's not difficult to do. Every fat kid wants cake.

But Price did offer an assessment of Ekeler that you often heard from recruits who grew close to the coach.

"He's one of those coaches who's energetic, funny, outgoing. I got along with him really well," Price said. "Even though he wouldn't have been my position coach, he's one of those guys you would go to first with any sort of problem."

Dad played in the 80's, cousin Jay played, committed A LONG time ago and wasn't recruited hard at all despite the offers. It was a slam dunk, with a MAJOR assist from Beck.

I committed last year after the Missouri game. When we were about to play Texas this year and I made a visit to Lincoln it seemed like a long time since I committed. so...you agree that it was incorrect to say he only gave his kids to recruiting and you pretty much just restated what i already said, that we had a leg up on some of these kids. you still have to land them, and it's pretty easy to call them locks in hindsight.

might as well say aaron green was a lock. after all, his brother was here, so there's no way he would have gone anywhere else. (for the slow, that was sarcasm).

paul - i'm not dying to rehash an argument i already had on this site, but i don't think anyone can argue that we had a significantly better line this year than last (and i would say the best we've had in years, though it's been a while since we had a good line). see washington part 1, KSU, OSU and Mizzou for bowl teams that we slapped around. obviously once martinez and lee got hurt the entire offense went to hell, as the only thing we could do was hand the ball off and it became pretty easy for teams to load up on that. to be clear, i'm not claiming we rolled out an NFL quality OL this season, but having a top 10 rushing offense is pretty clear evidence of progress on the line.
