Red/White Match Discussion

International Man of Mystery
Just a quick note about the Red/White match from tonight, which the Red Team (mostly the starters) won, 22, 22-25, 22 and 15 (or something, the fourth game was a rout).

The take-away from this match was this - the Huskers are for real. We have the guns to win the Big Ten again. We have some really quality depth behind those starters. Notables, whom you may not know off the top of your head, who had a good match: Alexa Strange, running the White offense as Setter, Alicia Ostrander who walked on as a Middle Blocker but moved to Left to shore us up at outside started slow but finished strong, while Cecilia Hall looked really strong at Middle, as did Senior (but oft-injured) Ally McNeal. Meghan Haggerty looked good, but like a Freshman (she'll be fine, if this exhibition was any barometer), but maybe the most impressive of the newcomers was Kelsey Fein, who looked more than comfortable out there amongst giants.

The usual cast of characters appeared ready to go: Morgan Broekhuis, Lauren Cook, Hannah Werth, Gina "G-Train" Mancuso, Lara Dykstra and Paige Hubl all were as expected. Solid, flashy sometimes, and capable of grinding down an opponent.

Treat of the night - Nancy Metcalf (nee Meendering) and Kayla Banwarth played for the Whites, typically made up of underclassmen. They helped the White team to a pretty competitive night, but the Reds still pulled away at the end. It was great seeing Metcalf and Banwarth play again.

Got a couple of pictures I'll try to post a little later, too.

Here are a few pics from the Red and White Game. Can't wait until tonight for the season to begin!
