so im taking a class to get credit to get bumped up the pay scale... was reading reviews on a college site at different schools... some are pretty fun... finally came across nebraska....... kinda what i expected but students who go there or have recently do you find them accurate??
i know lots of these kids who write these things are sometimes bitter or have a axe to grind but some im sure genuinely have complaints.. posted some of them below......
As many of the comments I have read have mentioned that the only thing to do at UNL is drink and watch football. This is extremely accurate. When I first got to college I became an acoholic because that was the only social activity available in Lincoln. Many try to pass off the atmosphere at UNL as friendly but as many that go here know professors, administrators, and staff are extremely arrogant and rude. A majority of people (including students) at UNL have no common courtesy or common sense. I recently was charged $25 for turning in a study room 5 minutes late in the summer when there was no one else using the other study rooms. When I tried to talk to the librarians about how rediculous this fine was they became very rude and talked down their noses at me. Many of the professors treat students in much the same way. If you do not immediatly understand the material they trat you as if you are stupid. I met a grad student that teaches here and she told me that they are told that 70% of their time at work needs to be spent on research and only 30% spent teaching. She also recently got in trouble for being to easy on her students when about 80% of her students got a grade of B or better. She was told that there should not be over 50% of her students with a grade of C or better. You are not taught in an effective manor when at UNL. A large majority of the curriculum is memorization and regurgitation so a student doesn't truely learn the material. This would be a great school to go to for grad students because of the leading edge research that goes on here. But undergrads are just a number and their education isn't important to this undiversity. You pay way too much money for what you get out of the education here. There is not enough student houseing. Just this last year 150-200 freshman students were put in temporary housing, which consisted of a few makeshift walls and painting over many large windows to give these students a small amount of privacy. When living on campus housing you are treated like a child and your every move is watched. The rooms are very small and, again, you pay too much to live on campus. The food on compus is dismal and there is no variety in choices. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't have gone to UNL. Unfortunatly I only have to semesters left until I graduate and then I plan on attending grad school, SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Overall I'd have to give UNL a grade of D-
Upgrading computers system almost every year.
However, most of the students do not require to have such high performance system, I think this is a waste. It's ok if students REALLY need it.
International students: Always leave this Uni as your last choice. The tuition fees is raised about 15% every year. THAT's TOO MUCH, MAN!! NOwday, this Uni is facing serious budget cut from the State every year. Thus, this Uni tend to charge student every possible way in order to keep this running in such "high tech" Uni which I think that's unneccessary. We are here for education, not enjoying those high tech stuff except for research purposes. CONCLUSION: The "VALUE OF EDUCATION" is NOT worth for the amount money that we paid for.
This college is a joke! I came here from freaking China so that I could branch out and be challenged. But I was disappointed because this college has no challenges, no social life, no diversity, and nothing special what so ever. I thought that maybe I'd be entitled to some upper level classes because I scored so well on my ACT, but all the classes are the same level; STUPID. I'm majoring in English, and being from another country, you'd think that I'd be a little behind, but I have better English than half the people in this place. All the people at this school care about is their puppies, their farms and graduating to harvest corn. So freaking dumb. Pick any college but this one unless you want to be surrounded by a bunch of boring, slurred, farm-folk with nothing but pulling carrots out of the ground to look forward to
Being an out of state student, I really didn't think UNL was worth the price of admission. The campus is pretty clean and all, but outside of football there is little to do and not many opportunities. That's all students can talk about, so if you aren't a fan of the team or the sport, you feel stuck because they don't stop talking about it even in the off-season. The students are fairly nice, but pretty closed-minded with their only really cares football and alcohol. Lincoln is a decent college town, but gets pretty boring. About the only other decent place within driving distance is Omaha, which is about the same as Lincoln but a tad bigger and a few more bars and restaurants. Outside of that, nothing but corn fields and farms for as far as the eye can see. Classes weren't anything groundbreaking or overly challenging. Professors seem helpful while at the same time reminding you how great they think they are. It's just not my favorite place. I'm looking at Colorado or Arizona as where I'll transfer to. If I'm going to pay a huge amount of money, I want more to do than drink and watch football.
