Rex Burkhead

Thank you for that post. Why does everything have to go back to race anyway? I see where Sharpton is calling foul because Arenas hasn't been booted from the NBA. His reasoning once again goes back to race saying that if it had been a white player he'd already be gone.

Rex is good because he is already as football smart as any senior. They wouldn't put him in to take snaps in the 'Cat if he wasn't. This is also the reason you won't be blown away by his improvement over the next 3 years. Guys usually improve because they start knowing where to go or be or have a better understanding of the game, not because of profound physical improvement. His numbers will get better because he will get more playing time (would have this year without the foot injury), but he already catches the ball, picks up the blocks, runs hard, understands the blocking schemes and reads the defense. What is he going to improve on?

the kid is a product of a very good Texas high school program not that i care for Texas at all, but a lot of kids are way ahead having grown up in Texas programs. Go 'Bama!

that's because they hold back kids in texas so they start kindergarten when they are 8.

I don't know if this comparison has ever been made(I'm new here) but several of my friends who have seen Rex play call him Jacob Hester 2.0. I think its a pretty good comparison. Probably came about because of his skin color but oh well.... :koolaid2:

Being short in stature also helps him to disguise where he is going. If the LB's can't see him behind the O-Line, then they have no idea which hole he's running through, and by the time they do, he is in the second level already.

he isnt THAT undersized..geez...he isn't 4'8 120
I just said he was undersized I didn't say he was a midget geez
he was referring to your blatant racism.
I am not racist at all haha I am white. I just dont hide from the fact that African Americans tend to be more athletic than white atheltes. For example no white man has ever run the 100 meters under 10 seconds it's just not in our DNA. I am not degrading white people it's just fact. Now the midget comment was probably uncalled for and I apologize.
Do you really believe that crap? No white man has ever run the 100 meter under 10 seconds because of DNA? Seriously?
First of all, I hate fueling this stereotype in any way, athletes are athletes. Who gives a S H I T what color they are. What year is this, anyway?? 1959??

I am white and ran a 10.58 100 m dash at the NAIA level and I wasn't the highest placing white runner in nationals. Matter of fact I didn't make finals. You can't use track for this because the best coaches on the best track clubs use it as a way to help keep youth off of the street away from gangs and many of these athletes are black. All you have to do is look at the 400m dash to see this is an ignorant point of view.

Jeremy Wariner--43.45 seconds in the 400 which is the third fastest time IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. Behind Michael Johnson and Butch Reynolds. Most people involved in track and field regard the 400 as a true test of talent. Wariner is consistently the winning or second placing 400m runner in the world every time it is contested at major events.

I am not sure if any of you have heard of the "Race" exhibit that has been traveling around to museums throughout the country but I recently went to see it. In the exhibit they have a part about sports and it talks about how African Americans have different muscle structuring in their legs that allows them to jump higher and run faster than any other race. This is scientific fact! As you said, Jeremy Wariner won the gold medal in Athens in 2004 but you did not mention he was the first white american to win an olympic spinting medal since 1964. That in itself proves the blacks dominance in sprinting. The 100 meters is the true test of speed, that is why we crown the olympic champion "the fastest man in the world." While speed is vital in the 400 it is not the determining factor in the race. The determining factor is hard work and hard training. I know it also takes more than just speed and strength to be a good running back it takes determination, hard work, and technique (which no race has an advatage over). This is why Rex is able to excel because he will out work anyone on the field.

I may be stereotyping Rex when I think of him as a white running back but I have not said anything to degrade him as a person or football player. I think it is great we have a white running back at Nebraska it's just a rare sight in BCS football today. Yes it is 2010 but stereotypes will never disappear in sports as long as whites and blacks compete against each other. Heres to hoping Rex can help lessen those stereotypes over the next couple of years. Sorry if I offended anyone with this thread I did not want to start a race war I was just posing an honest question, hoping for some feedback.
