Rex Burkhead

he's probably the smartest player at his position.
The OP raises a good question. I agree with the vision, heart, balance, positive yards, football IQ and the rest. Only other thing I would add is that he has very soft hands. The kid is so versatile it's sick. I suspect he will not own any records when he leaves NU, but he will have a greater impact on the program than anyone else his class. Add to it the fact that he is just a very decent, humble young man. Could well be the complete package.

he isnt THAT undersized..geez...he isn't 4'8 120
I just said he was undersized I didn't say he was a midget geez
he was referring to your blatant racism.
I am not racist at all haha I am white. I just dont hide from the fact that African Americans tend to be more athletic than white atheltes. For example no white man has ever run the 100 meters under 10 seconds it's just not in our DNA. I am not degrading white people it's just fact. Now the midget comment was probably uncalled for and I apologize.

Soooo much better coming from a mod than a schmuck like me. :)

Easy answer. Because the kid WORKS HIS TAIL OFF. Coaches say that he works so hard and is such a great leader that he just carries the team along with him. When you heard the announcers say during the Holiday bowl that the O-line just loves blocking for Rex, this is why. Nobody on this team outworks Rex. And maybe nobody in the country. We have a Gem.

He loves the game so he lives it and breathes it. I truly believe that anyone can succeed at anything if they are willing to give everything they have for it. Rex is that kind of kid. His Dad talked about how he would sit and watch Barry Sanders film over and over and then go out in the back yard and practice the things he saw. Then he would come back in and watch some more. Then out he would go to fix what wasn't right.

On top of all that people say that he is as humble as a person can be.

I truly believe that he will be a serious Heisman candidate by the time he is a Senior.

GO BIG RED!

i think it is his work ethic and it is obvious on the field because of how hard he plays. i think that is why he is getting so much attention and so many people love him. americans, and nebraskans, love to see people who work hard and see success.

also, this is not why he is good, but why he is so good at nebraska; him and helu make a great team, hard-nosed, north-and-south running, with speed and finesse.

Do you really believe that crap? No white man has ever run the 100 meter under 10 seconds because of DNA? Seriously?

As the coaches have said, he can make quick decisions going full speed. He doesn't dance around like Helu sometimes does. He makes cuts going full throttle.

First of all, I hate fueling this stereotype in any way, athletes are athletes. Who gives a S H I T what color they are. What year is this, anyway?? 1959??

I am white and ran a 10.58 100 m dash at the NAIA level and I wasn't the highest placing white runner in nationals. Matter of fact I didn't make finals. You can't use track for this because the best coaches on the best track clubs use it as a way to help keep youth off of the street away from gangs and many of these athletes are black. All you have to do is look at the 400m dash to see this is an ignorant point of view.

Jeremy Wariner--43.45 seconds in the 400 which is the third fastest time IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. Behind Michael Johnson and Butch Reynolds. Most people involved in track and field regard the 400 as a true test of talent. Wariner is consistently the winning or second placing 400m runner in the world every time it is contested at major events.

Wariner attended Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas, and participated in multiple sports and was recognized for his outstanding speed. Under the coaching of Mike Nelson, who also coached state champion 110 meters hurdler Reggie Harrell, he was the 2002 Texas 5A state sprint champion at both 200 meters and 400 meters, setting high school bests of 20.41 seconds (wind assisted) and 45.57 s respectively. Enrolling at Baylor University, he quickly established himself as a collegiate sprint talent under the guidance of Clyde Hart, who was also coach of Baylor alumnus and two-time Olympic 400 m gold medal winner and nine-time world champion Michael Johnson. Somewhat hampered by injuries late in his freshman year, Wariner regained form as a sophomore, winning both the 2004 NCAA Division I indoor and outdoor 400 m titles. Later that year, he claimed the national 400 m title at the USATF Championships making him the favorite for the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.Wariner then made his first appearance on the world athletic stage at the 2004 Olympic Games. He won two Olympic gold medals, the first in the 400 m in a personal record 44.00 s and the second as the third leg of the U.S. 4 × 400 meters relay team. Following his Olympic successes, he turned professional, forgoing the rest of his collegiate eligibility, though he remained at Baylor and continued to be coached by Clyde Hart.

Here he is, it is training and the fact many athletes don't take track seriously because it is traditionally the same time as baseball (<----white thing applies here) and spring football training.
