Rex still the man, but Abdullah is a beast

Rex wore out the Wisconsin defense, which made Ameer all that more effective when he was in in the second half. Taylor's ability as a true run/pass threat also helped. Wisconsin's D wasn't near as aggressive at the point of attack as they were in the first half.

I'd like to see them both on the field at the same time more often. Seems like we are missing a bit of an opportunity there.
I'm not nitpicking here, but the idea is that with a game-ready Ameer on hand, it allows us to keep both of them fresh. Being on the field at the same time defeats that. I agree that we could do great things with them both in on the same play, but I think Beck sees the advantage of keeping both of them fresh.

These guys are even to me. It's nice to have that 1-2 punch. When we needed a change of pace, we went to Ameer to open it up a bit. Then when we got em on their heals and wore down from chasin Ameer and Taylor all over, we went back to Rex in straight I for the go ahead score.

Andy Janovich is the next great walk-on fullback. As a freshman walk-on doing what he did Saturday in bigtime Big 10 football, he showed Mackovicka-like passion and intensity. The play in the 3rd qtr where he just buried Mike Taylor?(it was either him or Borland) and drove him back and off his feet was vintage Nebraska football.
Oh yeah....I agree!

I think it's great we have Ameer/Tmart running like scalded dogs and then punch them in the mouth with SRex/Janovich. Love it! Great, great change of pace.

How lucky/good are we to find 3 running backs in the last 4 or 5 years that can give each other a nice 1-2 complement, and possibly have another 2 or 3 lying in wait?

I kind of agree. Aside from that early fumble, Rex played a fine game. I hope that is how we use our backs this season. Rex to wear them down early, Abdullah to run all over them, and a fresh Rex to close out games. With a little Heard and Cross sprinkled on top.

We have a nice problem in the backfield this year. And hopefully for several more years to come. :wasted

Ameer reminds me of Fred Jackson from the Bills!
Funny, he reminds me of Ahman Green from the Cornhuskers. :) Appears to be further along than Green in his Sophomore year, IMO.
THIS!!!

The fumble problems, the great talent, the ability to lay a hit then juke the next kid out of his shoes. Did I mention the fumble problems?

The best thing about our groups of rbs, is that if we have an injury we have alot of talent and depth to step up and help carry the load, i dont think cross played at all on saturday and to be honest I'm glad we have enough talent that its hard to get a player like cross playing time. the future is looking bright at nebraska!

Still don't know how I feel about Cross not redshirting...

I am a huge Ameer fan, but it might be just a little too early to bust out the Ahman Green comparison.

Green was one of the best we've ever had, and that's saying a TON. Not to say Ameer won't end up just as good: I really think he might. But he's got a lot to do on the field over the next two and a half seasons before he earns that correlation.

Yeah, having on your resume being the Packers all-time leading rusher is faintly noteworthy............

Thread title: Rex still the man

He is still the man.
Rex is still the man.
If I may ask a question - do you believe Rex Burkhead is, in fact, still the man?

On a side note, something I was impressed by was the fact that Andy Janovich appears to have conquered the #1 spot at FB. He has played well, and I haven't been super impressed with Marrow. It's great to see a true freshman walk-on get the nod over a couple of really good players. Congrats to Andy and job well done!
I didn't watch him the whole game, but he had some really impressive blocks in the second half, that's for sure.
