I'm not nitpicking here, but the idea is that with a game-ready Ameer on hand, it allows us to keep both of them fresh. Being on the field at the same time defeats that. I agree that we could do great things with them both in on the same play, but I think Beck sees the advantage of keeping both of them fresh.I'd like to see them both on the field at the same time more often. Seems like we are missing a bit of an opportunity there.
Oh yeah....I agree! These guys are even to me. It's nice to have that 1-2 punch. When we needed a change of pace, we went to Ameer to open it up a bit. Then when we got em on their heals and wore down from chasin Ameer and Taylor all over, we went back to Rex in straight I for the go ahead score.
Andy Janovich is the next great walk-on fullback. As a freshman walk-on doing what he did Saturday in bigtime Big 10 football, he showed Mackovicka-like passion and intensity. The play in the 3rd qtr where he just buried Mike Taylor?(it was either him or Borland) and drove him back and off his feet was vintage Nebraska football.
I kind of agree. Aside from that early fumble, Rex played a fine game. I hope that is how we use our backs this season. Rex to wear them down early, Abdullah to run all over them, and a fresh Rex to close out games. With a little Heard and Cross sprinkled on top.Rex wore out the Wisconsin defense, which made Ameer all that more effective when he was in in the second half.
Funny, he reminds me of Ahman Green from the Cornhuskers.Ameer reminds me of Fred Jackson from the Bills!
We have a nice problem in the backfield this year. And hopefully for several more years to come. :wastedHow lucky/good are we to find 3 running backs in the last 4 or 5 years that can give each other a nice 1-2 complement, and possibly have another 2 or 3 lying in wait.
THIS!!!Funny, he reminds me of Ahman Green from the Cornhuskers.Ameer reminds me of Fred Jackson from the Bills!Appears to be further along than Green in his Sophomore year, IMO.
Green had injury issues that year I think. Missed a few games, only played some of most. I remember a huge turf-toe issue for a while. That was the year DeAngelo Evans jumped out.Funny, he reminds me of Ahman Green from the Cornhuskers.Ameer reminds me of Fred Jackson from the Bills!Appears to be further along than Green in his Sophomore year, IMO.
Yeah, having on your resume being the Packers all-time leading rusher is faintly noteworthy............I am a huge Ameer fan, but it might be just a little too early to bust out the Ahman Green comparison.
Green was one of the best we've ever had, and that's saying a TON. Not to say Ameer won't end up just as good: I really think he might. But he's got a lot to do on the field over the next two and a half seasons before he earns that correlation.
He is still the man.
If I may ask a question - do you believe Rex Burkhead is, in fact, still the man?Rex is still the man.
I didn't watch him the whole game, but he had some really impressive blocks in the second half, that's for sure.On a side note, something I was impressed by was the fact that Andy Janovich appears to have conquered the #1 spot at FB. He has played well, and I haven't been super impressed with Marrow. It's great to see a true freshman walk-on get the nod over a couple of really good players. Congrats to Andy and job well done!
