Rhule Stresses Need for Depth, Production Behind Johnson in Nebraska’s Run Game

I don't like backs as part of the "OC's play calling package".......Good DC's can pick up on this.....

This concerns me right here from Rhule:
“That’s literally the question I asked my staff this morning,” Rhule said. “We need some more production out of that second spot.”
How the hell are we 4 games in, a spring and fall and no one at this level knows who the hell the #2 back is OR no one has developed and/or recruited the #2 back.....We are not a team being built to bang in the B1G. Not yet. Not any closer than year 1. Last 1000 yard back was Oz in 2018...AA in 2014. Since Bo left this has been a constant problem. And IMHO, a reason for continued 1 score losses and losing seasons....

Come on man, figure this crap out. It's year 3. Maybe a hard look at Barthel....Same with the Donnie as OL....No reason in year 3 this OL still sucks. Same with the depth at RB room.

Run the damn ball guy rant over.

**** that. These players are making money now. Produce or gtfo. They can shoot their cool vids, have some swag, extra money, get laid, be small kings on campus. Then f’ing prove it.

This is what they wanted. This is what they get. Either produce or gtfo. Glad Rhule said it. We didn’t spend money on RBs or DL because it’s expensive. Now you gotta f’ing produce. I don’t care if you’re 19. You getting paid?? F’ing produce.
And yes, I contributed to the 1890. Small amount, but I have my say now.

tell me why matt rhule gets paid at least 10x more than every player on the team when michigan just beat us with no coach?

not really a dig at matt rhule but the system is still flawed.

Yep, While I appreciate EJ, there is a sizable gap between him and Justice Haynes, a top tier NFL prospect, they just faced.
Accurate but also maybe a bit unreasonable. Justice Haynes was the #1 running back in the nation coming out of high school in 2023. He was also the #1 running back in the portal when he decided to leave Alabama last year. Some feel he is the #1 back in the nation and most agree he is top 5. There is a sizable gap between him and most teams #1.

EJ can be good if we can get our o-line doing their job.

@Hilltop It's not just that we don't have the #1 RB recruit in the country, it's that we don't even have a real B1G starter-level RB. Our entire RB recruiting operation has absolutely cratered in recent years, and it shows!

We used to bring in a 4* RB pretty much every year ('member when Bo brought in three 4* RBs in one year?), but now we don't even have a single 4* RB recruit on the roster. EJ, Ives, and Nelson were all mid-3* guys coming out of high school. Mozee was a 4* guy, but as a WR, not RB. (Last time we ran a converted RB at WR worked out so well, didn't it?)

I don't disagree but was rather challenging the proof offered in the post above. If we set the standard at Justice Haynes, we are bound to be disappointed. I believe we have to have elite offensive line play before we will attract high caliber running backs. If you were Justice, would you want to play at Nebraska right now?
