Rhule to Penn State?

There were rumors and uncertainty well before then, not to mention Georgia already had a four-star QB committed for well over a year already. Maybe Beck was the tipping point, but Dylan kept an eye on Nebraska.

Team rankings are largely tied to the number of recruits in a class. Look no further than the Class of 2027. Sacramento State is 3rd in the 247 team rankings with eight recruits, seven of which are three stars. Regarding your fairly low-rated recruits point, I agree. However, the average player ranking would put us directly in the middle of the pack of the Big Ten. Add in our prowess on the transfer market recently, I hope we can both agree that our recruiting is trending positively, not negatively as your answers have suggested.

Team rankings for future years are largely tied to number of recruits just because teams don't have full classes yet. Current year recruiting obviously factors in number of recruits but the actual rankings matter once most teams start filling up. Oregon is 7th this year with just 17 commits.

No there weren't. It was out of the blue, even for the coaches.

If your goal is to be a middle-of-the-pack recruiter in the B1G, then have at it.

ESPN has Matt Rhule addressing the Penn State job opportunity in a kind of wishy-washy manner. He does talk about his goals here, but it's all tempered at one point with him saying, "..my wife decides where we live." I don't think he was just referring to what neighborhood or house to choose.

Her entire family is also in Central Pennsylvania.....

You're welcome to stop watching college football whenever you want

hall of fame game missed the point GIF

Evidently she just happens to like living where her husband has 7-8 figure/year jobs. Weird.

Lost a bit of respect for MR with that dumb comment.

I have reason to believe that there were months of behind the scenes work going on. Georgia message boards around that time were having discussions about who would leave first between Stockton, Puglisi, or Raiola. That doesn't equate to proof so there's really no point in arguing it.

In the new Big 10, middle of the pack recruiting typically means a top 25 class. FWIW, our 247 average "star ranking" of 88.13 would be in the 25th-30th range overall and 9th in the conference for 2026. You are correct, we do not have many 4 or 5 start recruits in the incoming class at this point. I don't view this as a negative as much given the overall context of the current roster's makeup, roster limits, and next year's recruiting. With two arguable five stars in the boat for next year and another top 250 player committed, I think it is safe to say we are trending positively.

PS- not sure why these recruitment bits were singled out of the overall original post regarding Rhule's reasons for stay/going, but we can get back to the thread topic if this sidechat is going nowhere?

I think you're spot on, those fans won't be patient for 3 years, Husker fans aren't even patient. If it were't for Dylan and Dana I think most of us would still have PTSD from the previous 2 coaches. I like Rhule, but he's never won the big one, never gotten over the year 3 hump to keep a team consistant. He's already had to fix major mistakes here with QB and OC, I dont think Penn St would have patience as this was suppose to be theyre year to win. Just sucks that now we have to hear this stupid narrative for the rest of the season and it's already getting super annoying, EVERYONE will be talking about it to get clicks....I mean Wilbur Dipshit is screaming doom and gloom in the titles to his videos everyday. I think we need to slide into theyre board and just badmouth Rhule as much as possible and maybe it'll get back to the boosters and we can keep our guy. I only have enough energy to focus on Huskers games. Whatever, PSU sucks and we are on a better path and I think they should go after Urban Meyer

Listen to his presser today. He talked about how Nebraska was the leader and spent money on things in college football before many others did. Weight room, training table, HuskerVision screens, hell even building the stadium. He said that next frontier is NIL.

If anything, I think he’s using the Penn State possibility a platform to ad I ate for for NIL $ and not for his own pocketbook. And good on him- a very savy move.

And it makes me warm to him a bit. He wants to win here and knows that $ makes the world go round.. That is how I feel he shaped his responses in today's presser anyway. If he was only placating pending a PSU to offer, why would he discuss how we’ve been the the pioneers of innovation and now there’s a new frontier we need to go after?
