Rhule to Penn State?

I did not get that feeling at all
Really? He even cited Oregon and Dan Lanning, saying how they're playing to win and we need to do the same, yet the sentiment has been "That's not really the Nebraska way." We need more $$$ for NIL if we want to be able to land elite players. Seemed pretty obvious to me.

IMO, this could be a powerful move for Rhule if he stays with Nebraska. I think it would send echoes throughout college football. It will be a game changing move.

Rhule will get more money on his contract from Nebraska, no doubt.

If Matt stays here it's because he was turned down by Penn State, not because he's firmly bonded with this program. Yes, he does like this whole challenge at Nebraska; to bring us back to the used-to-be days as best he can. That is right up his alley as to m.o. But, as pointed out by many, historically he is a program builder, then out after year 3 or so.

If Coach Rhule leaves I'm afraid that could severely hurt the fanbase.

We finally have something going good and to lose it all again would be heartbreak. I love having Rhule here in Nebraska and his family. We got a good one and would hate to see him go.

This idea that PSU doesn't need a program builder needs to go to bed.

They are perhaps the single most toxic programs in D1 and Universities outside of an Ivy.

Bill O'Brien on the culture

"You can print this: You can print that I don’t really give a ---- what the ‘Paterno people’ think about what I do with this program. I’ve done everything I can to show respect to Coach Paterno. Everything in my power. So I could really care less about what the Paterno faction of people, or whatever you call them, think about what I do with the program. I’m tired of it.

“For any ‘Paterno person’ to have any objection to what I’m doing, it makes me wanna put my fist through this windshield right now.”

They need Matt Rhule more than they need someone to beat a ranked team.

This really doesn't mean a whole lot because it's not like the Athletic Department is going to announce it even if they are notified but:

. Add in our prowess on the transfer market recently, I hope we can both agree that our recruiting is trending positively, not negatively as your answers have suggested
I think 2026 lack of numbers in recruits is more roster management. Possible the coaching staff sees resources better spent plugging in holes than spending on more 3 star borderline 4 star freshmen.

I was wondering this as well
So he’s recruiting for penn st already?
Kemon Spell - decommitted after Franklin's firing, announced offers from both Nebraska and Oregon on Oct. 12
Layton Von Brandt - decommitted after Franklin's firing, no offers announced (yet) from Nebraska
Gabriel Jenkins - decommitted after Franklin's firing, has had an offer from Nebraska since Jan. 18 and has recently scheduled a visit to Nebraska since decommitting
Khalil Taylor - decommitted Friday before Franklin's firing, has had an offer from Nebraska since Nov. 2023 has recently scheduled a visit to Nebraska since decommitting

So, just to summarize:
- One dude was offered same day that Oregon offered (clearly acquisition/clean-up attempts from both programs)
- One dude has no visible offer yet
- Two dudes have been offered for months (years in one case) and recently scheduled visits to Nebraska because of their decommitment.

Also, Penn St. had four commits prior to last Friday.

TLDR Stephen Conneely is lying, fear-mongering, and/or being a moron.

I still don't think Rhule is even a top-5 choice for them, but their top choices are going to be tough to pull because they are in great situations. But also there will probably be a lot of rumored interest from the coaches' agents to use as leverage for raises at their current schools.
