Rhule to Penn State?

You don't get to pick when your dream job opens. Opportunity knocks and you take it. Losing respect for a guy doing that just isn't right IMO, wouldn't you do the same thing if offered?

He's done a lot of good things for us already, and he doesn't owe us anything but the terms of the buyout.

My read of the tea leaves is that NU cannot, or will not, spend 30 million per year on the football roster to be more than a 9 or 10 win team like Oregon, Ohio State and apparently now Indiana. I'll be shocked if the checkbook opens up that much in the near future.
Is Indiana now paying NIL the likes of Ohio State and Oregon? That’s crazy. I don’t like the NIL arms race but it is what it is.

I disagree. I think if you’re paid 8M to do something you say you’re going to do, you do it.

Was today's performance indicative of a coach with one foot already out the door? Perhaps we'll get a clue over the next few games.
I hope so.

The reality is that Nebraska is going to move on from Rhule by the end of the 2027 season anyway. They might as well get paid $5 million to deal with a problem they're going to obviously have to deal with soon anyway.

Yes. Time to cut bait after this performance. Let him take his podcast on the road to PSU. Time for us to find a doer and not a talker.

Again: after the Minnesota game I hope some PSU boosters are saying “ Just think what Matt Rhule could do with the resources we have at PSU”.

Sounds like what some said about Mike Riley. Let another school be fooled.

Matt Rhule really is that acquaintance in college that tried to get you involved in a pyramid scheme promising cruises and timeshares.

Dude hasn’t won a ranked game since 2016. His 11-3 Baylor season was a mixture of grit and stupid luck. Beat a 4-8 T-Tech team in 2OT, a 5-7 TCU team in 3OT. Never beat a ranked opponent but did play some top 10 teams tough.

He beat two teams that ended the season with winning records in his 3 seasons in the NFL (11-6 Cards and the 9-8 Saints).

He is a fraud and he doubts his abilities when he’s on the sideline in any close game.

I'm beginning to see a bit of a betrayal by Matt Rhule, in not 100% shutting down the speculation: "I am NOT entertaining offers and I am the Nebraska Cornhuskers Head Coach and I do NOT want to do anything but build our program. I have NO INTEREST in the Penn State job." Or some such. He mealy-mouthed around the whole thing, leaving the door open. That 6 points and net 36 yards against the freaking gophers was the result, and we'll see if he can rehabilitate himself as the 100% coach here and get the players back on board.

This is my reality. Our best case scenario is that Penn State takes him.

This team is soft. He’s soft. We play bad football. We have condition similar to Stockholm syndrome where as long as we win we can defend the 80% of the game that was just bad football. Then we come out and have a game where 98.4% of the product is terrible.

He’s done little more than his predecessors at this point except limp into a bowl game. And we beat bad teams.

I'm ok with him leaving. The team and staff was in no way prepared for last night. Believed they were going to exorcise the demons of 0-5 to Minny, the surrender whites, and no back to back road wins since 2006.....Slick slogans don't beat a fist to the face. They expected Minny to fold and we got folded like wet laundry. Simply thrown away.

JMO. Rhule was never going to be here more than 3-4 years no matter what. Always looking for the next big thing. Win or lose he'll be gone by the end of next season. Hope Dannen has alist like Moos.

If I’m Rhule I’m saying “They tied my hands and I can’t get rid of my OL coach or rattle my QB”.

I’m not convinced the Nebraska performance hurts him.

I’d also make a few good hype videos for the interview if I was him. He’s good at that.
