Rich Fisher

After the season we have had so far, making statements that coaches are great, doing a great job, is simply amazing. Two weeks ago most on the board were ready to fire, or question how good the staff was. That followed this week until the fourth quarter, when the only true leader on the team put them on his back and delivered the game for Bo.

I am not saying Fisher is not a good coach, but I want to see more proof. Our coaching staff is far below what a program like Nebraska should have. If you feel they are doing a great job that is fine. I do not, and have not since we started this expirement. Too young, no knowledge of how to be a coach, no game time experience. I have questioned the hiring of Bo since day one. Personally do not like him, but he has made strides, but as stated before he really was put in a no win situation, and then he compounded it with less than stellar hires that could have helped him learn.

Most on here feel winning the the next 5 games is the most important thing in the world. I want us to win as bad as the next guy, but the rewards for winning the next 5 against less than average BCS opponents is facing a true team, that will dismantle this team like a crazy person with a chain saw. And the reason will be coaching. So beat up the cup cakes, but be ready to take what the rewards are. I will be here either way

Maybe you were one of those calling for coaches to be fired. I wasn't.

I have said many times I do not want Bo fired. Not because I like him or think he is even doing an adequate job. He still has no clue of how to prepare a team to play against a talented team. He seemed to up until his Nebraska is Back comments at the Holiday Bowl. After that not certain what to think.

He needs help. Experienced help. That can teach him how to be a head coach, allow him the time to be a head coach. Hiring Beck and Papuchis, were the worst things he could have ever done. I am sure they are great guys, but if you think they are doing the whole job and Bo does not have his hands heavily in it I do not know what to say. I dont think he hires guys with experience because of his personality. He knows it all, takes no guidance, that is the way he comes accross to me. Stoops Zook would have bee tremendous hires that would have helped with the defense and recruiting. They are not here so we have no idea what would have happened, but true leaders surround themselves with knowledge, and use that knowledge at every opportunity. Bo goes the opposite way.

Like I said he needs to make it, if not we go in the sh**ter, and I doubt we ever get out.

Ahh, but this coaching staff is probably the near best one we could get after that which was Callahan. However, our consistency (at least in terms of winning 9 games a year) coupled with the tradition and all the other stuff, should be enough for some of these "brand name" coaches to consider the Nebraska job if it were offered to them. Add a conference championship and a BCS appearance and it looks all that more attractive.

Could we have better? Definitely so.

Do we deserve better? Not at the current moment.

Am I okay with keeping Bo for the forseeable future? Hell yeah.

Do I understand that if we keep going the way we do we need to change? Not sure, wouldn't firing a coach a la Solich make us look less attractive to some of those "brand name" coaches?

Will I root for this team to fail in order to get that change? Absolutely not. That idea is one of the dumbest things I have ever read, heard of, or even thought about.

I want for us to be successful, I think we can be successful with Bo. The fact that we're not right now is frustrating, but never will I ever root for this team to fail.

I agree fisher is a good hire. Ross els coaches linebackers and special teams and those units both have the most breakdowns of any unit at nebraska. Next is barney cotton, his line is up and down more than a sea saw. Neither one of those coaches has much of my support. Jp is not cutting as a d coordinator either. Im sorry cause i like jp but he is not ready to be a major college coordinator yet. We get out coached schematically every game. I think we need a splash hire, big name coordinator and demote jp to linebackers and special teams coach. Get a solid recruiter, best available. Time to hire guys with major experience and accomplishments and open the check book a bit or i fear we will slide into middle of the big ten pack if we havent already.

I said I want to win, will never root against Nebraska. But we want no part of a true BCS team. We have not lived down the last time we appeared in a MNC that we did not deserve to be in. If we ended up against Oregon or USC, what do you truly think the outcome would be. I think it would kill the recruiting class instantly. We will get run worse than we ever have. That is where we are at.

Winning the Big ten is a joke no matter what happens. We lost to the best team in the big ten BADLY!! We will only be champions in name, not actions.

Again remember not the win, but the actions.

Some it is all about winning, for me it is about being competitive, doing things right, being respected, putting the best on the field, win some lose some, but be respected for the effort. We have kids that are doing that, we do not have a staff that is respected, our head coach is the laughing stock of the nation. We can not play a game with out the National media going, hey look at this idiot. They follow him because of his past history, not because they do not like him. They realize he is out of control, as his team plays.

Nebraska deserves better!

Now it is time for the ponies and all the derp crap from the click step group.

Proceed.

Also the recruiting coordinator. I bring that up as folks are bringing up our poor classes and inability to "close" the deal with some kids and not doing he hard sale to them.

Rich Fisher hiring was great.

Ross Ells hiring was great

Tim Beck's promotion was great

Terry Joseph's hiring was great

Rick Kaczenski's hiring was great

John Papuchis' promotion is still questionable, but I have a feeling will be great.

He has hired/promoted a lot of coaches that are doing great things for us, and a lot of them, or most of them have been equally scrutinized as much as the other. Quality coaching staff, and takes more than a year or two to see their best performances.
if there is one hire i question it is definitely ross ells. both LBers and special teams have been the weak spots on this team. honestly if it were me i would probably replace him.

Quincy Enunwa is twice the WR Niles Paul ever was. I attritube that to his hard work along with his position coach giving him the tools to be successful.

Great job Coach Fisher! I told your dad the same thing the last time I saw him.

Sorry skers, the rooting against your team part wasn't meant for you, it was just an observation I have noticed from some posters who want Bo gone--that they know a 9 win season or even an 8 win season wouldn't be enough to get him gone--so they want the team to lose in order to achieve what they want. It's sad. But it wasn't meant for you.

Fisher and Joseph are bot doing very well. Both position groups look much better than they did last season, players actually seem to be being developed.

Kaczenski is still out for a verdict, he had a solid resume from Iowa, but the D-line has been a weak point all season so far.

Beck may get better with time, but so far his offense can be a bit erratic. When its good, its really good, but against better defenses it has tended to look lost and confused with head scratching play calls. Like where the hell is a screen pass when an opposing Dline is shredding the O-line.

Els just seems to kinda be there. The LBs and special teams are a very weak point right now. And no verdict as a recruiting coordinator as this is his first year in that capacity, and the class has yet to sign.

Papuchis is another with the verdict still out. I like the guy, but I don't know if he has enough experience to truly be a coordinator yet.

I CANNOT be the only one that thinks we just don't have the horses on the DL right now...

It's not Kaz's fault. He inherited our weakest defensive unit from last year and we just don't have the players right now.

Cam has been mediocre all year (good to see him finally do something last game), Baker's an All-American OT, All-Conference DT playing defense.

Anrkah and Rome are only non-frosh I see having a shot to be studs in the future. The frosh-- VV, Curry, Moss, and McMullen-- have good potential and could turn the line into a strength of the D in the future.

Speaking of which, not to threadjack, but McMullen has been MIA as far as getting shout outs so far this year. I know he's redshirting, but does anybody have any info how he's looked? He was our most hyped DL recruit last year.

In this scheme, a weak D line spells disaster. The OL gets to the second level on our LB's often and this makes it hard to stop a strong rushing attack. Even Bama would have issues if opposing teams got to their second level. Hard for a 230 lb LB to go toe to toe with a 300lb OL with a 3-5 yrd head start. It also makes the secondary play very hard. We have seen time and time again the need to blitz or rush more to get pressure, but Bo often seems content to rush 4. Prince, Haag, Gomes etc... couldn't cover receivers for 10 seconds. Even Pro Bowl DB's can't. It all starts up front with getting pressure and plugging up the OL to allow the LB's to scrape and make plays.

I really liked seeing us in more Peso this past week with Evans and Cooper. Great in run support and more speed to cover the RB's out of the backfield. This will allow us more flexibility to disguise blitzes and actually get speed to tee-off on the QB's. This would help take pressure off the DL and allow them to "contain". I think that Bo realized that the Big XII D will stuff this supposed power league in the B1G. A RB or QB might get a few more yards, but speed kills. It did against us for years until we went speed on speed. Then 3 MNC's........

If we continue to keep the 2 gap, we need the horses up front. Been beat to death, but McBride has mentioned previously the 2 gap is great if you have the horses. If not, well it is hard. Kaz, IMO, is not working with a lot with our current seniors. the fresh/soph look promising, but have seen little playing time. Seeing Cam move inside to a quicker DT instead of a slower DE seemed to work. IMO, Bo realizes he has issues and is trying to do something. Triage stop gap if you will. Try to eek out the next 5 wins, much like the offensive shell we went into in 2009. Patchwork D and try to let the O carry the load.

Agreed totally. +1.

Cam and Baker have given their all, but they need to go. The future up front is in our youth, and we need to make our #1 recruiting priority DL IMO.

Our lack of ability to recruit a star DT (or even a great JUCO one) still disturbs me. I just don't get it...
