Rickey Thenarse likely out for bowl

After Baker was suspended for the bowl game, certain that Rickey will be also. Very sad end to his career as a Husker after everything he's been through.

Officers contacted Thenarse shortly after 2 a.m. on O Street between 14th Street and Centennial Mall when they found his maroon 1998 Oldsmobile 88 stopped in the middle of traffic, said Lincoln Police Sgt. Jason Stille.

His blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.11 percent, according to police reports. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

He was cited for DUI, a suspended license and impeding traffic. His in-transit stickers on his vehicle were also expired.

Thenarse, a senior, participated in UNL's graduation ceremony Saturday morning.

Dang. DANG! I was looking forward to seeing Thenarse on the field one last time in Husker red. The guy went through a LOT his last five years at UNL. Family tragedies, injuries, coaching changes. And he always kept plugging along. Now he gets stopped in his tracks by a DUI. *sigh*

They've been talking on the radio for weeks now how the cops are doing special patrols and stepping up their presence around downtown during the Holiday season. It is beyond insanely stupid to 1) go out and drink too much, then drive home, and 2) to do it NOW when you know - or SHOULD know - that the cops are out in force.

We've all been young and made poor decisions, but this is just asinine.

Sorry, Rickey. You screwed the pooch here, and you deserve to miss the game. You'll likely regret it the rest of your life, but we all have to live with our mistakes.

I heard that when the cop wanted to cuff him, Ricky ran and dove at him with his arms at his sides. He bounced off and the cop kept going.
