OWHInstead of following a traditional offense-vs-defense setup, Nebraska coaches will form two teams that will be finalized by Friday afternoon. First units won’t be entirely together, but rather “it will be kind of a mixture,” offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf said.
Special teams will largely be skeletal, Riley said. Kickoffs will include only kickers and returners, and punter Caleb Lightbourn will get “four or five” chances to kick. Field goals and extra points will still be attempted.
“We’re going to try to give everybody an opportunity to do something that’s their specialty in play," Riley said.
The game will be standard in the first half: 15-minute quarters with regular timing rules, right down to TV timeouts. The second half will feature a running clock across two 15-minute quarters.
Riley said quarterbacks also will not be part of the live action Saturday.
“Officials will make a decision on the sack or not, which is always interesting," Riley said. "Somebody will argue, that’s just a given. But that’s what we’re going to do this year.”
Yup, I hated that format.I like this format more than some stupid scoring format for offense and defense. Just let em play
I prefer any format where the top units face off against each other. I dislike the mixed/draft format because we don't see the depth chart or the top units against each, so I'd prefer the offense vs defense like last year as compared to this year's format. But my top choice would be the old 1's and 4's vs 2's and 3's where the #1 offense vs #1 defense are opposite each other and face-off against each other.Yup, I hated that format.I like this format more than some stupid scoring format for offense and defense.
