I'm guessing you don't recall the times when Osborne's teams struggled to move the ball with the run game against Bowl quality opponents. And since our quarterbacks of the time rode the struggle bus when it came to passing the ball, defenses just loaded the box. In order for your smash mouth football to work, you also have to have a credible passing threat.

But why didn't we see these up and coming talent play this year? Cav selected his guys to start and stood by them the entire year. The only change he did make was put Sterup at guard at the end of the year.

Great post, not sure how nobody realizes this. Let's give some credit where credit is due, not any warm body can win nine games at Nebraska. But it takes a special kind of bad to lose 7 games in the B10 West. Like Illinois and Purdue bad. And we lost to both of those teams. Someone please look at the 2016 schedule and tell me how we don't lose at least 5 games best case.

I think we will have a better record next year, as coaches and athletes adjust. You can't tell me the athletes bought in right away knowing his career record. I saw our defense improve throughout the year, not sure if any of you also did. I was shocked by the hire, and disappointed by this season. We lost games we shouldn't have, no arguments here. I agree, he should have brought in another assistants, but it is also easier for the head coach to bring those that know his philosophy right away. Hopefully, HCMR will make some changes now that some of that adjustment period is over and have better coaches. I expected a 9 or 8 win season, and was obviously disappointed. If we lose a few coaches and hire some great assistants, next year can be better. I'm not convinced HCMR will get us to a national championship or BigTen ship, but I have faith he can lay the building foundation for the next coach to come into a program supporting the new coach, which he did not have after Bo left. Bo divided the program when he left, and that makes it more difficult for the next coach. Is HCMR the right guy? I don't know,but I hope he can be.

Riley's record the last five years before he came to Nebraska was: 29 wins - 33 losses. And he had 3 losing seasons in his last 5 years there. And he did that with his own recruits.

So what does Nebraska do? They hire him to be our head coach, double his salary to 2.7 - 3 million a year and give him a way too long contract.

What do we get in return? A losing season and a years worth of fourth and 1 on the 19 with the game on the line... and game mismanagement.

Burry your head back in the sand but try going a little deeper this time. You will feel safer in the dark.

Because you've had your head buried in the sand you wouldn't know these things, which is why a person should not burry their head in the sand in the first place.

Riley was on the "hot seat" for loosing his job at Oregon State all the way back to 2011. No one was offering him a job because of his last 5 year record, so he had no where to go... until Nebraska offered him a job and offered to double his salary in one of the most unexplainable coaching-money throwing hires of all time... even though Nebraska should have been able to see his record.
