Breakdown: Tommy Armstrong was a rare four-year starter. In college football, you don’t want to be the guy who replaces the legend – you want to be the guy who replaces the guy who replaced the legend. Junior Tanner Lee, a transfer from Tulane, is the guy who earned the opportunity to succeed Armstrong with a strong spring camp season, and with offensive-minded head coach Mike Riley they will try to buck that trend.

Mike Riley: “The good thing for Tanner and us is he has played in college football games. And the other part of it is he's been with our team for about a year. He earned that job through good competition in our spring ball to be our starting quarterback heading into the season.”

There is a lot in that statement that makes me believe the author really doesn't know much about Husker football other than Lee is replacing Armstrong.

Author: "Hmmm, ranking B1G QB's. Nebraska.....wait where is that? Oh yeah, over by Iowa. Let's see, they haven't been great according to my quick google search. Ah, they had a 4 year starter graduate. Well hello bottom of the totem pole mr Tanner Lee....who according to ESPN transferred from Tulane and has loads of that Louisiana Speed. Hmmm, 9? Yeah let's go with 9."

The fact that he ranks NW as the top QB situation in the conference is all you need to know.
This a million times.

He had a good year overall in 2016, but he has games where he really struggles to hit anyone at all. Thorson would only be above average on my list due to two years of experience and closing the year out on a higher note. He has a lot to prove when not throwing to someone named Carr.

I predict 3 INT's (1 pick 6) and a lost fumble or two when we steamroll Northwestern this season.

Wilton Speight looks like he should be playing golf and having Hornibrook at QB for Wisconsin will be to the Huskers advantage imo when we play them in Oct.

Written by a recruiting analyst...SMH. What a terrible list with very little thought put into it.

Totally agree. Lee hasn't played a down for us yet but from everything I've read it wouldn't surprise me one bit if his stats at the end of the year blow Thorson's out of the water.

Even before the season, I would have a hard time separating the two based on previous performance and team potential.

One has two years of experience at a smaller school with little help and loads of hype, and the other has two years of experience at a power school with a rough first year and a up and down year throwing to one of the best WR in the nation and little other production.
