road trip time - OU game

This is from the journalstar.comblog. I forgot about this classic Callahan quote:

Hey, maybe a road trip isn't all badThe road has hardly been kind to the Huskers in recent years. Bill Callahan's NU teams went 6-12 in road games. And I don't need to remind of his one trip to Norman.

That game produced its share of the bizarre, leading to my all-time favorite Callahan quote: "I probably could have used a better choice of words, but I am distressed when people are shooting off guns and throwing fruit at our players."

You just don't get enough football quotes like that.

what an idiot he was.... :clap

What is wrong with calling a bunch of Hillbillies F**k!N Hillbillies?

This is no different then Bo calling the Ref F**K!N C@CKS**KER over and over again or cussing out Bill Snyder. Wait with Bo it is just fire with Callahan it was not understanding tradition. I think that is what people used to say.

Double Standard?

Hate to say it, but definatly a double standard. You know everyone was drinking the Callahan :koolaid2: until middle of last season.

I never really thought of Okies as hillbillies, then, a couple of weeks ago on the travel channel there was a documentary detailing the hunt for Big Foot in central Oklahoma..(I sh!t you not)...and they talked to several "eye witnesses". Wow. This was the typical recipe the locals followed: Bud Light, a 'coon light', your standard 1968 4x4 Ford, and dash of heavy cal. semi auto pistols. They would fire, at night, into the woods to point out where they thought they saw movement, because as everyone knows the human eye can easily track the flight of .40 cal bullet so long as you have a good spot light on it. HI- Larious.

Sorry, way off topic, Calli's quote just reminded me of it.

I think they've both acted childish and stupid at times. :dumdum

Callahan's Throat Gesture "I tell my kids I"ve had it up to here" & the F'n Hillbillies thing..

Pelini's yelling, fits, and tantrums at the officials - chalking up TWO personal foul/unsportsmanlike conduct penalties within his first 5 games.

I think you get those all over the country.

I'd agree that both hurt us and will hurt us in the long run, but it's one thing to talk down to a state/fanbase and to talk down to some refs who are making some questionable calls at times.

Hmmm...missed some words there. I just think there's a diff between Cally's gestures towards the state/fanbase and Bo just going after the refs.

Are we seriously still recycling old callahan quotes? GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!!

And newearth, are you just going to rehash the f&^%ng c%$@^ers thing over, and over, and over in every thread untill someone finally shows as much outrage toward it as you have? Once again.......GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!!

Actually both threads that I brought it up in it should have been brought up in. Its not like I'm just running in on every thread and putting something about it in them. I just think people are so easy to give Bo a pass for his crap yet bash Billy C for his crap. That is it end of story. Hold them both to the same standard don't let one get a pass because you may like him more.

For the record as long as people bring up the F*CK!N HILLBILLIES thing I will always bring up the F**K!N C@CKS**KER thing, or as long as Bo continues to throw little kid tantrums on the sideline every game like my 2 year old when she doesn't get her way, she does it with less cussing though.

Believe me there are plenty of people in the Husker Nation that feel the same way I do about his tantrums but not all of them post here on the internet.

But I am now officially OVER IT ALREADY so I will move on and never post it again. Unless the above mentioned examples happen then I will post it again. So maybe I'm not OVER IT ALREADY but if the mentioned examples don't happen then I guess maybe I am OVER IT ALREADY. <_<

Good Lord I hope your two year old doesn't throw Peliniesque tantrums. It would be disturbing if she called you a f*&%ing c*&$k s&*#er. Funny. But disturbing.

Sorry I should have said without THE cussing instead of with LESS cussing. That would be disturbing if my 2 year while throwing a tantrum talked like Bo. Kind of as disturbing as a grown man (he is 40) throwing a tantrum every Saturday when he doesn’t get his way. Some call it “fire” I call it “childish”, this goes for all coaches not just Bo. You can have your players’ back, that is a good thing, but come on there are other ways.

Back to the original topic F**K!N HILLBILLIES!

The fact that those OU fans were throwing oranges justified Callahan in calling them f'ing hillbillies, because those that threw them were just that, or uneducated middle-Americans for my pc brethren. The story behind OU or NU fans throwing oranges after the game is because the winner of that game(in old Big 8 times, the last game of the year) usually meant a trip to the Orange Bowl. 2004, OU had another game to play, then the Big 12 championship to play in, so the Orange Bowl was far from cemented with a victory over NU. Those that threw oranges were morons and did not understand the significance of why they were thrown and were just throwing something for the sake of throwing. They just as well could have been eggs or rotten tomatoes. I am stunned that not one sportswriter pointed that out in all the writings on this subject at how disrespectful and stupid it was for them to do that and rather focused on Callahan calling a spade, a spade. Whatever, it's ancient history, but as long as the f'ing Hillbillies comment gets brought up, it bugs the hell out of me that the stupidity of the act to cause the comment bears no mention.
