Wow! The firing is not unexpected - the timing is.

Now, who's the leading candidate? I don't see Spurrier returning.

No joke, talk about screwy timing. Wonder if they have someone waiting in the wings? Just dont see another top shelf coach dropping his program mid-stream. Word is Urban Meyer is a front-runner.. as he always seems to be these days. But apparently the now Pres at UF hired Meyer at Utah - so there is a connection.

I look for them to go after Urban Meyer from Utah. I believe that the AD from Florida came from Utah so he has some ties with the program. It will be interesting to see who they go after though.

What's worse is he has to stay there until the end of the season. I could never understand that. If he isn't good enough to coach at your school, why keep him on. Isn't that admitting defeat

Could be that the AD doesn't want to consider any of the assistants. If he installs one as an "interim", and that assistant does well, he ends up with a controversy he can avoid.

In other words, he wants to avoid what happened at NU.

GATOR TALK: If Steve Spurrier returns as Florida's head coach, he would be interested in hiring Bo Pelini as defensive coordinator, ESPN reported Tuesday. The report said Florida officials have contacted Spurrier to gauge his interest in the position. Pelini, Nebraska's defensive coordinator last season, was asked Tuesday about the ESPN report. "I don't deal in speculation," Pelini told The Daily Oklahoman.

Nothing, of course. The fans are solidly behind the firing.

The players are already mad - there was a meeting between the players and the AD already in which some walked out, and many expressed their displeasure at the firing.

If Zook wins those games, it won't do a thing.

I know it wouldn't change the firing but I think it would cause alot of controversy and be pretty funny. I still wonder why they fired them now, interesting.

I agree it would be funny - but I don't think it would start a controversy. Those that wanted Zook fired won't be placated even if Florida goes undefeated the rest of the season.
