Royals sign Ankiel

808Husker in KCMO

All-Conference
My fear is that without LaRussa's blind eye steroid policy, we've signed a has been. I guess he's still a defensive upgrade in right field though.

PS-Screw the Cardinals

Sounds about right, KC signing a 'has been' if you can even call Ankiel one. Isn't like he was a consistent all star for the Cards. Who's next? They bring Fred McGriff out of retirement to DH? Somethings never change...

That has always been KC's Modus Operandii. They do two things very, very well. They have a great eye for young talent. They bring them up in the farm system and they turn out to be fantastic players (Dye, Beltran, and Damon). When their developed players perform very well, KC can't afford to retain them, so the players split. The other thing KC does very well, is signing cheap, has been players. Until KC get's somewhat of a decent payroll, the Royal retirement home will be installed with a revolving front door. I am just waiting to read the headlines when the Yankees or Red Sox go after and sign, Zach Grenke. It's just a matter of time...........unfortunately.

i think we have 3 or 4 more years before that happens. They got him to sign that deal before the start of the season last year.

Yea, fortunatly the Royals have Greinke on the hook for 3 more years (signed 4yrs for $38m last Jan), but there is very little chance they'll be able to keep him beyond that. The Greinke Sweepstakes starts summer 2012....kinda like the Beltran trade in 2004. I agree that the KC scout team is able to find the young talent, but they just can't afford to keep them after they become legitimate ball players. If they can get ownership to open the checkbook, they could compete a little better with the Yanks/Sox of the world.

I think its a pretty good sign money wise but he struggled a little bit last year. I would have liked to see the Royals go after someone else like Dye but I can see why they got Ankiel.

i dont get this....why not try bring Mark Teahen back instead of spending that money on Rick Ankiel. Teahen gives versatility (we all know Alex Gordon can't stay healthy) i dunno i like Ankiel as a 4th or 5th Outfielder at best.

word from dayton is ankeil will be the starting CF in spring training. Pods in right and they are moving Dejesus to left. Guillien becomes DH. I think moving DeJesus to left is going to fail. David has an accurate arm, but its not strong and he played well as a RF last season. Why move him?

Fro.... you got it backwards.... DeJesus was in Left last season. Ankiel has the strongest arm and should play Right.

YOu are correct, it has been a long day

they are moving david to right field and putting pods in left and ankiel in CF. Atleast, thats what Dayton said Monday

So a sub .300/no power journeyman, a roided up(aledgedly)former gas can and an injury prone-bust will man the outfield at Kauffman this year. Unless they throw Grienke out there every other day, plan on another 100+ loss season.
