Rumor has it...

A guy on another forum posted this. Take it for what it's worth:

My brother has a class with major Culbert and got to talk to him a bit today. My bros not the kind to blow smoke up anybody's rear when dealing with these guys, but here's a synopsis of what Major said:

*Look for MUCH more nickel and dime packages on D this week. With the LB's hurting bad, Major, Rickey, and Brian Wilson are all expecting a considerable jump in PT. Major siad Grixby's a bit banged up and so is Jones (minor 9-games-in-9-weeks stuff), and that he and Rickey are chomping at the bit to see action.

* Practices have been intesified the last few weeks. No slow down for the players, defineatly drained at the end of the day.

* Team moral appears to be down. Some guys (didn't mention names) are frustrated with their play last week. As my brother said, "They don't have a lot of yunt to." (If you've heard Jeff Foxworthy, that will make sense)

Take it FWIW, but this game just took on an even "bigger" stage.

If it's got any merit, it does make sense. The LB's are quite banged up right now. :(

OU and aTm had success running a 3-man line against Misery...wonder if Coz will try to do the same.

He did try it last year, but Brad Smith tore him apart.

However, Chase Daniel, while being a decent runner, is not the running threat Smith was...

It will work out better for us. It's about time these new guys started seeing more game time. I know freshman make mistakes but they got to get their feet wet sometime. They should have been getting more playing time much earlier in the season.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. Given the way that Mizzou likes to spread the field and make you tackle in space, wouldn't it make sense to get more athletic in the back 7 and replace an LB with a DB?

Especially Thenarse and Culbert?

I agree play them.

Shanle is not a freshman and look what mistakes he makes.

The downside to playing younger guys is that they are going to make mistakes at a higher rate than a older player. But at this point, do you really have a choice?

I can see how some players may be frustrated. However, the coaches need to help them get passed that so they are fully ready to play this week. Missouri is going to come in focused and wanting to win this game badly. I think we have our hands full, and am glad we will be playing with home field advantage. Go Big Red! :woo

I almost hope that we don't start off too fast as it has hindered more than helped us thus far this season.

And I'll be in Chicago so I hope their will be some kind of coverage there. Do you think ESPN Zone will have the game on, even if it is out of the ABS coverage area for the game? If I'm not able to see the game I'm going to be pretty pissed.

I wish they would have played more this year. But I agree. If the chance is there, play them and let them get some real game time experience.

:yeah I agree. Why didn't these youngin's get more pt in the preseason when we were kicking the sh!t out of Troy or Nichols St. I believed they had already burned their redshirt so what is there to loose, maybe give up a td or 2. But on the other hand they could gain valuable game experience.
