RUNNING BACKS

Why do you think Bjax bolted? the writing was on the wall. He couldnt beat out a healthy lucky at the start of the year. At the end of the year when his hand healed he couldnt get back on the field cuz Lucky was healthy again.
You cannot be serious. BJAX was our best back healthy or not. Lucky has not lived up to his 5 star hype since coming to NU. He shakes the first tackler and that's it. He's good for 1 cut while BJax would take the ball and make 3,4, and 5 guys miss. That writing on the wall that you speak of was an NFL contract and that's why BJ left. If he would of stayed, he would of been starting this year and Nebraska would be in the hunt for an NC.

other than Marlon, how healthy are the other backs and what role will Mendoza play early?

Good questions. Although not completely healed, Glenn is running without a hitch for the first time in a while.

Lucky is 100% and should get the brunt. I think Glenn can play a very big role if he can stay healthy.

If not, we will see some youngsters get Lucky a breather or mop up duty.

Hope that helps.
Alright!!! This is music to my ears. Where did you hear this? :clap

Nope. Like darveaux said, I saw him break about 4 tackles in the first 2 1/2 minutes. He is kind of quick if there is a huge hole, and he is good for 1 good cut. Nice speed, but he did get caught from behind a couple of times. At this point in his career, he is a very average division 1 back. There is a reason why most of the preseason publications didn't have him listed in the top backs in the country. Like Hunter94 said, he has yet to live up to the 5 star hype.

I talked to Cody's high school coach and he said the new trainer along with new therapy has done wonders with his progress and he should be 100% when fall practice starts.

Cody is doing well and is having a good summer working out with the guys in the 7-on-7. His foot situation has gotten better and he has been running well, but he will at times have a little bit of pain associated with it in the evenings after running on it a good bit. I fully expect him to be primed and ready to go for fall camp and the season. I am expecting a big season from both Lucky and the C-Train.
I think Cody Glenn is due for a big year, he doesnt get nearly enough credit for his speed how agile he is, hes not just some big lumbering guy like Javorskie Lane. Heres to Glenn and a 1,000 yard season. :woo
AMEN

oh heck yes BJAX was light years ahead of Lucky, with BJAX back in the line up Lucky would be in north carolina and NU would be the north favs and possible top 10 ranking. BJAX had glimpses of LP in his ability. what we dont know is the seriuosness of the hospitalization incident Lucky suffered and the events leading to it. anyone clear on that?

darveaux may have touched on the very reason i started this post. I sense a little D'Angelo out of Lucky....afraid to run inside....injuries, he didnt get out of the spring game without getting hurt. and according to Bill there is no solid fullback stepping up as yet. now that may be a coaching tatic to raise intensity at that position, but honestly we have no exp at the running back pos. and or DBs but thats another post.

I agree w/ you about injuries. But this season he will be handling most of the carries, if he can in fact stay healthy, and I really think that if he is successfull then his confidence will continue to build. He is a very important aspect in getting our running game well, up and running, if I may. He has shown great ability to break into the secondary. Also you never know if one of the backs lower on the depth chart will emerge. Jackson was third string @ the start of last season. But I have plenty of faith in our North Hollywood boy! :horns2
I don't know...it's just that nothing he has done has made me say 'wow'. He just seems like a back that's a little above par for NCAA and don't think he'll ever do much (if he even goes) pro. He's injury prone, afraid to run at holes, isn't really all that quick compared to some other backs in the game, and my number one biggest gripe...he goes down fast...doesn't break too many tackles.
the potiential is great when i think about our offense, added depth, a couple guys on the offensive line getting a look at honors. a five star QB (in my eyes) a five star running back, recievers getting national recognition. (well) things look good. Keller is very demanding at the QB position, does not allow much slack in pass running routes and or pass blocking slip ups. I live down here in Tempe, spend time working out with ASU players at 24 hr fitness next to campus (where the cheer squad and dance teams practice :) ) I have talked to some of the players about Sam, especially if i wear HUSKER gear, Sam is a very buisnesslike student of the game and very agressive. does not fear anything (Taylor) and takes no sh*@% from anyone. comes off as arrogant and self absorbed. Sam is a gun slinger and is very much dependent on a running game to open up his offense, which is BOMBS AWAY!!!!!!!!!! his accuracy is freaky, the bigger the game, the better he is. please do not interpret HUSKER success as anything BC has done this year, Sam will be making the final decisions at the line of scrimmage. hopefully the kids in waiting will learn as much as they can from him, and apply what they learn in seasons to come. GO BIG RED

That's great to hear as I hope to see a lot out of him this season. I'm not completely sold on Lucky's durability just yet and I think Cody will provide a nice change for the defenses!!!! :box

one thing to remember about lucky is....He's only had one year of significant playing time.

think about that before you've made up your mind on whether he's garbage....or the best thing since sliced bread.

all in all don't worry, with our o-line someone will step up.

consider that no one would have guessed that B-Jax would have had anywhere close to the season he had last year

and now I'm gonna go write some more sentences that don't go with each other :)

Good point, and also letting a RB get more consecutive carries and get in "rythm" really helps too. Its hard to randomly get the ball coming off the bench and be productive.

People that think Lucky hasn't shown his 5-star ability - His freshman year, he only got a few carries because of Ross. Sophmore year the Huskers went with a "Running Back Committee" style. So in that year him and B. Jackson shared the carries...and he still managed 728 yards. Thats only 272 yds. short of 1000. Now imagine Lucky carrying the ball twice as much this season....assuming he stays healthy! :clap
