Rushing defense

Haspula

All-American
UCLA: 344 yards (Franklin 217 yards, 8.3 yards per carry)

Wisconsin: Montee ball 90 yards, 2.6yards per carry (team had 56 yds total lol)

Ohio State: 371 yards

Northwestern: 180 yards (118 yards, 7.4 yards per carry by Mark)

Michigan: 93 yards(injured denard)

Michigan State: 238 yards

Penn State: 151 yards (141 yds, 6.7 yards per carry by zwinak)

Is it time we step it up against the run? Seems like our rush defense has been up and down this year. I wouldn't call our rush D performance against penn state somehwhat bad since zwinak was averaging 6.8 yards per carry as well as lots of long runs. There seems to be no pattern on which we struggle against the run. Against dual threats we've had good performances (um and nw) and bad performances (ucla, osu). Same with pro style, good performances like uw and bad performances (psu, msu)

Our defensive line is just not that good. The linebackers are getting better and better at filling gaps, but without a strong defensive line, you aren't going to be great against the run. Overall I thought we were decent this game. The long run for the first TD, we just weren't quite set up yet. Other than that it was solid.

Today was like the NW game in that a big chunk of the rushing yd's given-up came on one play and the rest of the game really wasn't too bad. That run on the first series was ridiculous, no way in hell should a fullback-type be going house on us.

If we make it to the B1G, we need to be ready against the run. Wisky put up close to 600 yrds today on the ground IIRC.

Yah I think Lurker called it. We just don't have the personnel at this time to be a run stuffing defense on every down. Too many injuries, (Randal, Williams and Curry) have put us in a tough spot. The others are not ready yet. Rome is still developing strength & size and isn't there quite yet. Not sure where Peete and Guy are in their development but since we haven't seen them they must not be ready. I know Peete needed to lose a lot of weight. When your sliding a RE inside to DT you know there are some issues. Getting some JUCO DT's in next year is imperative. I think VV will play but don't know how Randal, Williams and Curry will turn out due to their injuries. Frankly I think Randal should go medical, which is too bad. His knees are shot I think. Williams I am hoping that he gets past his injuries over the winter. Curry's development has been set back. I'd like to see him in the rotation but don't know if he will be fully developed to be the man.

Country also called it. Wisky has their run game issues figured out. We will get crushed if we don't figure this out. That is if we make it to the B1G-CC. Not counting any chickens at this point except for one. (me)

Our rushing defense is flat out bad. We rank 93rd in the country in rush defense, surrendering 196.4 yards per game. That's atrocious.

Zwinak was a load to bring down. Yes we could've done better. Yes our rush defense isn't our string point. We also had to worry about the pass yesterday. We didn't worry about the pass too much against Michigan or Northwestern and did well against the ground game.

Our defensive line isn't very good at all and of course that's going to show up in all the rushing totals against us. I fear the match-up with Wisky..............
