Bugger. Thanks for the correction. Here's an actual pic of the tomb under guard during Sandy:

People across the New York metropolitan area confronted scenes of devastation from Superstorm Sandy early Tuesday: widespread flooding, power and transportation outages and a wind-swept fire that tore through dozens of houses in the borough of Queens.

At least 33 deaths in eight states were reported as Sandy pummeled the East Coast with 80 mph winds and severed power to more than 8.1 million customers, according to The Associated Press. Late this morning, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said there had been at least 10 fatalities in his city and that he expected there would be more reported.

Consolidated Edison reported that 670,000 people in and around New York City had no electricity.

Sounds like NYC was hit especially hard. Burned 50 houses in Queens. Flooded the subway. Knocked out electricity.

Living in Maryland...we got spared compared to the people up north. Thoughts and prayers are with those people. Last year Irene hit us hard so I know what they are going through....

Prayers go out to the east coast HB boys. Walksalone I assume you are already dead...

The difference in size between Sandy and hurricane Irene, from August, 2011:

The stronger the hurricane is the smaller it gets. Kinda like when an ice skater pulls there legs in and starts rotating faster. Same principle.

I think the key there is the volume of water it dropped. They didn't have a tremendous amount of wind damage (it didn't get above Cat 1, did it?), but the flooding was devastating.
