SBNation: Do 2018 college football recruits even remember your team's last national title?

There were only a few Husker games on TV back then. So, we just needed to be near the radio.

To the question about if they remember your last NC.

I think that is blown way out of proportion when talking about recruiting. Look at all the schools who have never won one or has been longer than us who get really good players. These players are looking at the next 4-5 years to see how they think this program is going to be. They love it that Nebraska has a good history, but that's not what they are looking for in any school.
Agreed. We may piss and moan about how long it's been but there are many more teams and much longer last times than Nebraska.

Yeah! Rutgers hasn't won a NC since 1869!

They aren't. At my previous school it was much more common to hear kids talk about watching a movie together on Saturday than watching football.

At the school I'm currently at it's a bit more leaning toward football Saturday's but still, no where near what I watch on Saturday.

If I'm not done breaking down film by 11am. It gets put off till Sunday morning.

I'm not sure if it's sad or not. I just had a kid ask me who Dave Rimington was yesterday.
It's not that sad, Rimington was at Nebraska nearly 40 years ago. That would be like you (when you were in high school) asking someone what Rich Glover was like.
Shoot, I am 10-15 years older than you and only know Rich Glover from stories and videos from the Game of the Century.
Ya but there is an award named after Rimington too
There are awards named after Davey O'Brien and Doak Walker, but I have no idea what they did in college.

I'm going with chess.

Went to SMU for awhile before the death penalty.

Chemistry department secretary's jaw hit the floor when I said I had no idea who Kyle Rote, Sr was. He graduated 25 years before

I knew that Doak Walker played RB for SMU, but I couldn't tell you how amazing he was, other than probably being an All-American or something.

Good Gawd guys Google is your friend.

I have been saying this for a very long time. These kids do not care one iota about Nebraska history/tradition. Their only concern is what can Nebraska do for them, can they play as a freshman, how quickly can they get to the NFL, and is Nebraska capable of giving them the tools to do it.

I really don't think the game day experience is that big of a deal for them either, they are more concerned about the facilities, the closeness of them and their accessibility to them. Every school in the top 25 have fantastic game day experiences, so if they are really good, they have most likely seen the same thing, just not Red.

We do have a coach that understands these kids even though he is considerably older.

Selling mom is and always has been the number one thing, be it football or the military. He convinces them that they will be cared for, and they will get their education if they want it and will be pushed towards it at all times.

I think the staff gets it, just hope we are patient enough for it to happen.

At this point it's not so much the history matters to them, but because of our history, we have good facilities and good $.

I think a lot of things changed and changed rapidly after the movie, "Show me the money". History tradition, wins or losses are not that important, just how quickly they get here, get to the NFL and make big money.

I am sure Nebraska still has a few kids that grew up like a lot of old timers, dreaming of playing for the Big Red, could not even think about another place. Those days are mostly gone. Even kids from Bama are going other places for the opportunity to play quicker.

The world is different than when we were dominant.
