SBNation: Pretend you’ve been offered the Nebraska and Tennessee jobs. Which should you take?

The overwhelming negative being that Florida is still Florida, and you have to deal with death threats, bath salt zombies, and Florida people doing Florida things, as Floridians are wont to do.

Hey!  Them's fightin' words!   And what the hell is a bath salt zombie?   :P

Digging his heels in.

Not changing it. Going with, for my money, the most respected CFB writer on this. Sorry.

I understand a Nebraska supporter wouldn’t believe it existed.

Alligators and hurricanes would be a hindrance too.

If I was Peyton Manning and wanted to coach I'd go to Tenn. If I was Frost-UNL all the way!

The problem that the SEC has right now is that Alabama out recruits all other teams in that conference by such a wide margin that other teams have lost hope and they rush to try and get a Saban clone so they can replicate what Bama is doing. Several hires in the SEC have been made over the last few years to try and do that and they all have failed so far besides what is taking place at Georgia. Heck, some nutty Florida fans are trying to push out a coach that won the SEC East the last two seasons.

As far as a TN vs NE thing, it is much easier to win a conference title and get to the playoff by coaching at Nebraska and have to go through the B1G West compared to having to play Bama, Florida, and Georgia every year.

I am not going to say the Tenn job is a better job but have you seen the SEC East lately? This isn't 2006. I don't think the road to the playoffs is much different between the SEC East and the BIG West.

If I was doing the coaching, I would consider every aspect.  What do the schedules look like the next 5 years.  The level of talent supposed at each place.  The level of support I felt I would get from the AD after conversations.  Learn a little about the fan base of each.

Check out facilities if allowed at both sites.

Then take into consideration of weather, the state and options I could do when not embroiled in coaching.  IE hunting, mountain hiking, overall which state fit the things I liked to do.  The things my family like to do.

Having a son born in Tennessee and living there for a few years.  Being involved with Loretta Lynn's dude ranch in the past and having very close friends in Knoxville, I love Tennessee.  Love Nebraska in a different way.  Home

If everything at the University is the same, I would take Tennessee.  Two reasons, it is a fantastic, beautiful state, and my attitude is you have to beat the best to be the best.  I don't look for the easy way,  Coaches, the level that these programs need don't either.  If I am good enough I want to prove it against the best.  The best by far resides in the SEC West.  To win the NC someone every year has to beat Alabama.  You get your chance there.

If I was Scott Frost,  I would stay at UCF and finish my dream and promise.  Be it two years or 5 years, or forever.  No hard feelings from me if he decides to follow his dream, and not every Nebraskans dream/desire.

TN's annual crossover is Alabama, the top program in that conference. Georgia has Auburn. FLorida has LSU. TN has the harder game on a regular basis (not just Saban era). Who regulrly out recruits TN in their own division? Georgia and Florida.

Who out recruits Nebraska in their division? Nobody. Even during losing seasons that is still the case.

The #1 thing to winning football games is having a good head coach. Yes the in-state recruiting, facilities, fan support etc. matter, but If it were always easy to win at Alabama then it would have continued after Bear Bryant all the way to Saban but that wasn't the case. Alabama has also been cheating since the beginning of time (even under Saban). http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/sports/college/sec/university-of-alabama/article29055703.html

From 1997 to 2006 Alabama was (67-55) that includes the games won that were vacated afterwards due to infractions. Saban's first season also vacated when he went 7-6

My point is if we get a good to great Head Coach we will start winning football games again. Will we duplicate what Bama has done lately? No. Can we start winning division/conference championships? Yes.

Nasty stuff that's all over, but pervasive in America's flaccid penis of a state.
Doesn't seem all that pervasive based on the local news of south Florida.  Perhaps it's more prevalent elsewhere in the state or the news are downplaying it.

His promise might include recommending one of his coordinators to take over as HC.

Having been away from "home" for a long time, I know about missing family activities.  I think home and family may play a big role in his decision.

A man is only as good as his word.  If he doesn't stand behind it, why would he the next time.  Sorry ingrained answers from my Grand Father, the Marine Corps and my personal code of conduct.  As Aaron Taylor said, he is not about money.   He has more than enough currently.  The family thing, having the grandchild close to mom and dad, maybe a much bigger club than the millions of dollars some want to throw at him.  Really had not given that a thought to be honest.

You make it sound like Nebraska doesn't have to play anyone in the East or when they do it isn't anyone good from the East. Who did you play in your last game? What was the score? Who do you play on 11/18? Who does Nebraska play 9/22/2018 (Watch out they are September champions), 11/3/2018, 9/28/2019, 10/31/2020, 10/2/2021, and 10/30/2021? Nebraska isn't exactly escaping the usual top programs from the other side of the conference either. Nebraska might out recruit those in the West but they are seriously lagging behind the East. Historically Tennessee hasn't been lagging much behind anyone in the SEC other than Bama on the recruiting trail.

You completely missed the point of her post. She said Nebraska has an easier road to the CCG, which is true because the Big 10 West is far easier to win than the SEC East.
