Scanning magazines: What do they say about the Huskers?

We have watched that kid hobble on the field over and over and over since his freshman year. He was a warrior, a great Husker player, but he is going to say he is ready to play no matter the situation is my guess. That is the type of player we want. It is the Staff's responsibility to know what is wrong and a reasonable time to heal from. May I remind you of Rex. Same deal. Too important to the offense and had to play when he really should not have.

These are not just pieces of meat to keep your pay check coming in. A lot along the concussion deal. If it does not kill you get back on the field, we all heard it. I am not saying that the Nebraska staff is much different than any staff on injuries. The kids want back, the staff needs them. Easy to say yes when someone on that staff knows deep down that the kids should not play. If you believe college is different than the pros on this so be it.

Roster management, recruiting are the things that cure this situation. We have seen slight improvement in recruiting, roster management hopefully will be improved along with it. Bo has shown he is learning, just a long slow steep climb it seems to me.

 
Still can't believe Taylor even tried staying on the field unable to walk during those Missouri, Texas A&M and Oklahoma games after having his ankle just get destroyed over and over. I would have been on the ground writhing.

the practice of playing guys hurt, is a direction reflection of poor recruiting and lack of depth.....just sayin.

The point is you are just speculating. You or I is not at practice or in the training room. We see a small percentage of what goes on with Nebraska football or any sports team for that matter.

The speculation is that the coaches don't care about their players.

That they are just pieces of meat. As I said we know nothing about what goes on with the dynamics of that team or any sports team. I coached football and wrestling for a long time and no one outside the coaches and players really knew what was going on with our team. Our head coach only let out what he wanted out.

 
What was said that is speculation. What is said that is so disgusting.

It is football to play injured, but it is the coaches choice as to the need of said player to play. We all have seen Taylor play hurt. We know his mobility was affected by turf toe and high ankle sprain. Two very debilitating injuries. Hardly ever heal during a season, sometime are life time injuries.

We saw how bad he was in the Minnesota game. How hurt he was, how was the limp hidden during the week. He was needed, he stepped up and did all he could do. That is what is expected of every single player on the team. On any team.

I really do not feel he played a game at full strength after the initial injury in the Missouri game. Will always believe that. The sport, Nebraska and all of us were robbed of seeing a truly great athlete perform at the top of his game. I just do not feel he was given the opportunity to heal, mostly on his own decisions.

“How long until redshirt freshman QB (Johnny) Stanton forces his way onto the field?” How about starting QB in FAU game ala freshman T-Mart? I'm afraid TA was too many picks. I can't stand turnovers. Maybe Tommy Armstrong = Cody Green?

I may be alone on this but Im guessing none of the preseason mags have a whole lot to say about Taylor Martinez

 
Well skersfan, i was in a sour mood when i typed that. I apologize for my kneejerk. And my comments were not exclusively in reference to yours. I guess i just interpreted some of these speculations as attacks on Bo's character and being one of tgem "win at all costs" coaches. And thats just something i will not stand for.

Taylor playing hurt is a two way street. Both parties are responsible for any incompetence in this regard.

As far as the possibility of Stanton overtaking Armstrong for the starting spot by game1, i will acknowledge that it is a very real possibility. Weve seen Stantons films. We know his raw skill. Weve also seen plenty of tommy in actual games. If ghe light comes on in the summer for Stanton or early fall, it could be very interesting. But dont discount Tommy's ability to improve as well. I said this from the first day off the offseason. I hope we have a full blown qb controversey all ghe way up to game 1. It means bith are pushing each other and making each other better.

 
I think Bo made the choice to play him, maybe over medical advice. But I am dead sure, as I do know the kid, nothing would make him say he could not play. That puts the coach in a hard place. He needs the wins, semi healthy he had proven he was our best option over the last 3 years. My guess each and everyone of us would have done the same thing.

I still feel Bo has a long way to go to be a good coach, but I have tried to support him this year. He showed me some change in the bowl game, what I had been looking for. Growth, accepting things are not just like he thinks they are. Youth/talent can over come experience. He shows signs of understanding those things. That means there is a chance he will make it. I really could care less if Bo does or does not. I can not say that he is a favorite, but this program needs him to do his job and do it right. Continue to learn his trade, and make Nebraska a proud program again. I do not want to start another 7 year program again. He is, right now, what is best for Nebraska, and that is all that I care about. Return us to a level of pride that we have fallen from in the past 14 years. Not wins or losses, just knowing that we are going to play like Nebraska, the team I grew up watching from the Devaney days. I miss that gutty in your face play. I thought Bo would bring that in spades. He has not for me, but there is a glimmer of hope he can.
