“The biggest thing that jumped out to me about Thursday was just the level of professionalism with this staff. This is not their first rodeo. Mike Riley has hired a group of seasoned veterans, but what maybe jumped out the most was their level appreciation and overall genuine interest with the reporters and their questions. At a place like Nebraska you have to feed the monster instead of fighting it. You can tell this staff already gets that.”

I never understood the animosity Pelini had towards the media around here. Sure, they are omnipresent, but if you are smart, you can make that into one hell of an advantage. People caring deeply about what you do should not be viewed as a negative.

I am NOT defending Pelini and how he handled the media……but as a HC of a team, and hell, just as a person with common sense…… after a game, especially a loss, there a TON of really, really dumb questions that the media ask….. a lot of these dumb questions are "rhetorical" and they are just looking to get a reaction…. as a fan listening, I get pi$$ed at some of the things they ask in post game or at half-time…. some of those people need slapped for being so stupid.

When you combine that with Pelini's "don't give a crap" attitude, you get the results.

And if they know a question will get an interesting response, they will continue to ask. Most coaches just answer the dumb questions with a coach speak answer. Being a jerk does not help matters any. Work a job where you deal with the public for a little bit, and the dumbest questions every asked by reporters sound brilliant in comparison. Its a matter of being in control.

It's almost like once he started he couldn't stop in order to uphold to some personality he had. If he went away from it people would have asked why he turned so nice.
