SEC facts

I have felt that the SEC has been overrated for a while. The top 2 or 3 were elite. The rest were average. They don't play non-con true road games often. They play FCS opponents late in the year.

Now they complain about the gauntlet. Fine, don't play in the playoffs or bowl games. Play for a conference championship or just STFU.

The B1G should not follow the trend of not playing big non-con games. This is what has given the SEC an inflated sense of self and caused them to fall. They also no longer have the elite coaches. The B1G does.

Also, I truly believe that the ABC/ESPN people believe the BS they are peddling. They also live in an echo chamber.

I think Nebraska was embarrassed by Utah in our bowl game.

But I think Alabama was embarrassed even worse by Indiana. Alabama fans will hold no good memories of this Playoff Season and I'm sure a contingent think DeBoer's seat should be as hot as Rhule's.

So there's that.

This has been a weird coaching carousel year. Penn State fires Franklin, and in no time he has a new job at Virginia Tech. Penn State is supposedly interested in Rhule, and we give him a contract extension. Michigan was supposedly interested in hiring DeBoer. From the outside looking in, it appeared as though Utah somewhat forced Whittingham to step aside. Now, he's the head coach at Michigan and is taking his stud OC with him. I really wonder if Penn State isn't the biggest loser in all of this. It's not that Campbell is a bad coach, it's more of the peaks and valleys. It wasn't that many years ago (2022) that Iowa State finished last in the Big 12.

I’m ok with Tennessee but Mizzery has definitely benefited via the SEC bias. They are a run of the mill team in the Big 12 and a doormat in the Big 10.

Eh, I'd say Missouri would occupy the same space as Minnesota in the Big10, which would also be better than Nebraska.

Just two years Missouri defeated Ohio State 14-3 in the Cotton Bowl.

That is just another reason I think Ryan Day is not an elite coach. He fails to get his teams ready too often in a season. They have elite talent, which is what has saved him.

Whats crazy in this SEC thing is that the CFP was rigged so an SEC team would make it to.final 4. They only had Tulane in the way. Kind of odd that nobody has pointed that out.

It's just that he's a mediocre coach who was right at home at a place like Iowa State. He could have stayed at Iowa State for as long as he wanted. He probably won't stay long at Penn State...

Agreed.

I have nothing at all against Campbell, I think he's a good guy. But, I hate Ped State. So watching the experiment burn down is going to be really satisfying.

I got to the end of the thread and was surprised by something missing in the discussion.
The FALL of the SEC is "coincidentally" tied to the major overhaul of CF via the SCOTUS.
But everyone here knows the truth. The SEC looked badass for 2 reasons.
The minor reason is that ESPN became their cheerleader (increased bias let's say) when the Big 10 rejected ESPN's contract terms 20 years ago and started their own (competing) network.
The MAJOR reason is that the SEC was openly and unapologetically cheating for decades. Yes, I agree, so were most of the P5 schools. Michigan, O$U, U$C, Wisconsin, Illinois, FSU, Miami, Iowa, all the schools from Texas ... them and many more were busted for cheating.
But the SEC was on another level of brazen. It was basically the Jr. NFL conference.
NOW, the system has been upended and I would argue that college football is in direct competition with the NFL for viewers.
Speaking for myself, the college landscape is far more interesting to me than the NFL.

When did Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa get busted for cheating?

I don't believe the NFL and college are in direct competition at all, the casual fan will always choose the NFL because it is a better product. They always get 2-3x more viewers than all but the highest college games. College football is all about emotional/family/personal ties to a school, not the quality of football. People can and do like both, I know I do. If I had to choose between the two I am probably watching an NFL game and recording the college game to watch later, unless it is Nebraska.

I think a lot of folks here agree with you however, and only care about college which is perfectly fine.
