I don't necessarily disagree with you...but then why bother to arrest Michael Vick and put him in prison? That wasn't a "human issue". There were economic reasons for killing the dogs.hey, guess what, in the morning, im going to feed cattle that youll probably eat within the next 2 months at your local fast food joint. welcome to the world of the oblivious consumer. they want you to be a vegan? great. go for it. if they change everyone within a year to that diet, youll be seeing videos from some organization touting how mistreated and woefully underpaid migrant workers are... the 'outrage' and 'oh my god im going to do my part to end that' factor will be just the same, for a human issue. but nothing will change, until a natural roadblock intercedes. we're at the top of the food chain and completely self-serving, only the strong survive society folks. and if this video doesnt show you that, the current credit crisis only backs it up.
First and foremost, dog fighting is illegal in all 50 states. As mmmtodd can attest, PETA has contributed to much waste in the food industry with their stupidity. If an animal due to be slaughtered in the future (cattle, hogs, ect.) happens to break a leg due to an accident in the yard, or develops a hoof rot condition due to the weather conditions that will cause an obvious limp, we are no longer allowed to transport the animals immediately to a packing house facility or locker to be humanely put down and salvaged, because of regulations passed by government to appease these loons. The animals instead have to be destroyed at the farm and the whole carcass is discarded wasting the non-affected parts that could have been salvaged.I don't necessarily disagree with you...but then why bother to arrest Michael Vick and put him in prison? OK, but digging deeper, why is dogfighting illegal but the treatment shown in this video OK? It's a fairly fine line between what Michael Vick did and what is done to these chickens, which is not only legal but apparently a widely accepted practice.First and foremost, dog fighting is illegal in all 50 states.
It's not the lobbyists at all. Most consumers don't want to know or don't care. Let's say they sort out all the males and send them to some farm to be raised, what are they good for? The meat from a male chicken is tough and not very palatable to consumers - like eating a fried pheasant. They can always gas them which will still not satisfy PETA anyways. It's all about pushing veganism, well at least until their "friends" in the environmental lobby decry the clearing of lands for vegetables.OK, but digging deeper, why is dogfighting illegal but the treatment shown in this video OK? The government spent millions of dollars prosecuting and imprisoning Michael Vick. Seems like an enormous overreaction to me, if not total hypocrisy. Maybe the dogfighting industry needs to hire the same lobbyists as the egg industry.

Can't they take all the feathers off of those little chicks, put some batter on them, fry 'em up and toss them in some good sauce like Buffalo Wings? I've never had pheasant but it can't be much worse than a wing.Let's say they sort out all the males and send them to some farm to be raised, what are they good for? If you think a quick death in a grinder is unpalatable, I challenge you to find a video of a dog fight. After watching a fight that could take up to an hour to the death, you let me know how you feel afterwards.
I find PETA to be a very hypocritical organization, because they are not consistent in their protests. They will protest the fashionistas over fur unless it's one of their "friends". PETA Calls Off Protest of Vogue Event
PETA won't bite the hands that feed them.

The wing used to be kind of an undesirable, less tasty part of the chicken, now it's a big industry. I bet a lot of people would order Fried Baby Chicks from Hooters if they marketed them right.
I don't know if you are trying to link me with PETA since you keep bringing them up but I'm no fan of that group and I certainly find them hypocritical, not to mention that their tactics are deplorable at times. You don't have to be a PETA member to somehow be disturbed by throwing live baby chicks in a grinder or forcing dogs to fight each other (or shooting animals for sport or clubbing seals, for that matter). I can just see a couple of workers on the chicken line talking about how barbaric Michael Vick is, while at the same time tossing some baby chicks into a grinder. Or a couple of hunters having the same conversation while shooting a bear or something so they can mount a head on a wall. You mention the hypocrisy of PETA, and I agree with you. But there is plenty of hypocrisy to go around. You think every bear killed by hunters is cleanly and quickly killed on the first shot?
Of course I expect anyone with a financial interest in throwing baby chickens into a grinder to be all in favor of it, but folks that are OK with this shouldn't be so quick to throw Michael Vick under a bus just because it's not their financial interest at stake. It's a double standard.
I think Michael Vick is a lowlife thug but his prosecution and imprisonment was a huge waste of money and resources. It doesn't mean that I'm not horrified by treating dogs like he did.
To be clear in case you misunderstand my position: I am mostly a libertarian and I am not in any way saying this should be against the law. I don't think it should be the government's job to pick and choose which animals to elevate to some special protected status. It seems like you have a problem with dogfighting (I do, too), others think it is an entertaining sport so it's OK. Some people think killing bears is bad, others like to hunt big game and are OK with it. Some people think throwing baby chicks into a grinder is bad, others like 99 cent per dozen eggs and are OK with it. Some people think clubbing seals is horrible, others like the fur and are OK with it. It all seems to be a matter of perspective, largely driven by financial or other personal interests. I am not thrilled with any of these but at least I am consistent with my belief that the government shouldn't be involved in determining which groups get to have their financial interests protected and which will be sent to prison. If someone feels strongly enough about the chicks to stop eating eggs that is their right. If enough people are bothered by it, some alternative will be made available (probably already is). It just won't be 99 cents a dozen.
Showing people what it takes to make 99 cent a dozen eggs at least gives them a choice to make based on their principles and priorities. Just like refusing to buy clothes made from child labor.
I didn't know that the egg industry killed off the male chickens like this, I just assumed they were turned into McNuggets. Now I know they taste like pheasant so I learned something today, except I thought people liked the taste of pheasant because I know hunters that cook 'em up and look forward to that meal.
Oh, yeah, sarge87, congrats on the Caption Contest victory!
Let me be the first to go on record to state, "I like the chicks at Hooters"Can't they take all the feathers off of those little chicks, put some batter on them, fry 'em up and toss them in some good sauce like Buffalo Wings? I've never had pheasant but it can't be much worse than a wing.
