Being a Yankee fan, i know somebody will tell me that i don't have any business talking about the Giants.

But next year, I think they could win the west.

If Timmy and Cain keep pitching well, and Zito continue's to get better, they'll be solid in that department.

What hurt them this year was the lack of any real power from the middle of the lineup. If you're getting excited over Uribe, then your in trouble.

 
Right, they do have some studs in the rotation, wonder if they will try to go out and get someone like Manny or Holliday to bollster the run production.

 
You think they'd have to do something, otherwise the arms are almost wasted with no run support.

I don't think Manny would be a good fit. I think Torre's the only MLB manager that would be able to "handle" him.

In a perfect situation, they'd need a couple guys that they could get away with not paying too much for, that aren't superstars, but will still put up decent numbers

 
Yeah I think in order for them to win the West they will need to pick up a big bat. Pablo Sandoval is a beast but I don't think that is enough. They have a great staff but for now I don't think that is enough.

Hey, I'm a huge S.F. Giants fan. Grew up in the Bay area. I post alot on the giants message board under this same handle..

Anyways, I'm just sickened by my team's lack of understanding and using advanced metrics. We continue to try desperatley to upgrade run production with mediocore bats (Derrosa, huff etc.) and ignore run prevention. These guys will cost us runs in the field and make no significant impact to offset that at the plate..

When you have a rotation like ours, and a ballpark that caters to pitching, you need to maximize that advantage with defense.

Sandoval needs to move to first, Uribe needs to replace Edgar and Posey MUST be the everyday starter. Add Bumgarner to the rotation and maybe, just maybe you can win the N.L. west or at least survive until a deal can be made for a legit bat during the season..

As is now, we're going to be lucky to repeat last years season.

Yep, was reading your post and just scrolled down to the sig when the wife walked in.... :bang

Anways, if guys like Rowand, Huff and Winn get back to the level of production they are capable of, they can be contenders. Especially if Uribe and Molina stay on par.
