Shane Komine allowed one hit over seven innings Wednesday as the Sacramento River Cats blanked the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 4-0, at Raley Field.

Komine (5-12) yielded only a fourth-inning single to Seth Smith, struck out nine and hit a batter. Hew threw 69 of 99 pitches for strikes en route to his first win since Aug. 5.

Connor Robertson allowed a hit in the eighth before Kazuhito Tadano struck out two and worked around another hit in the ninth.

"I felt good. I was locating all of my pitches on both sides of the plate, keeping them off-balance," Komine said. "Definitely after today, I feel a lot better going into the playoffs."

It was his longest outing since going eight innings against Round Rock on June 3. He fired a complete-game shutout against Fresno on July 6, 2006.

"I was going to go back out for the eighth, but after we scored the fourth run, [manager Tony DeFrancesco] said that was good," said Komine, was throwing his fastball, curve, changeup and slider for strikes. "I knew I was throwing a no-hitter, but you can't really think about it. You just want to get deep into the game."

Despite losing 12 games, the 26-year-old right-hander received a brief call-up on July 4 and pitched 7 2/3 innings out of the Oakland bullpen.

"I haven't heard any talk about [being called up]," he said. "I definitely want to be up there, but that's not in my hands. All I can do is pitch.

"It's been a pretty rough year for me, especially on the road. My stats are terrible on the road."

Komine is 0-8 with a 7.34 ERA in 11 starts away from Raley Field. At home, he's been a different pitcher, going 4-4 with a 3.29 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 11 starts.

"We're looking forward to finishing strong and our goal is to be there [come the playoffs]," Komine said. "We're pretty tough to beat. We're hitting and pitching well right now."

A 2002 ninth-round draft pick, Komine is 2-3 for the River Cats (80-59) since returning to the Pacific Coast League.

Sacramento scored in each of the first three innings. Kevin Melillo lined an RBI double in the first, Jorge Piedra came home on a groundout in the second and Lou Merloni added an RBI bloop single in the third.

Jeremy Brown singled home Melillo in the seventh, a run that ended Komine's night.

"Our bullpen has been pitching well for us," said Komine, who watched Robertson and Tadano complete the River Cats' eighth shutout. "They've been great."

Sky Sox starter Marc Kaiser (6-7) was reached for four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and three walks over 6 2/3 innings.

The loss was the fourth straight and ninth in 10 games for Colorado Springs (66-73).
