You guys actually think Helu can carry the ball 25 times a game every single week? Yeah freakin right! You guys obviously have short term memories, because as good as Helu was last year, there was many times where after two or three straight carries it looked like Helu was going to have an asthma attack!
Helu and this offense NEED a change of pace or "short yardage" back. To claim otherwise is just being naive and foolish.
The part in green...Yes I do. And I've never played football but if a running back isn't breathing heavy after two, three or four consecutive carries then I'd imagine he's not putting forth much effort.
I've never really been a fan of the whole "short yardage" back philosophy. You want to have two or three guys every season who can step in and play.
The part in orange...If the OL, TE and HB/FB do their respective jobs the hole will be there for whichever RB is in the game hence there'll be no need for short yardage.
i think there is a pretty big difference between saying "short yardage" and "change of pace." I think we are saying we don't like the idea of having a short yardage back because of the mentality that goes with something like that and how it affects playcalling. I think we all just got tired of, through the years, being in a 3rd and 2 and here comes in the power team, 3 TE and Glenn or whoever it would be at that time, and hand off right to a defense that knew it was coming (of course, we are thinking of Callahan, so we should probly be giving Watson the benefit of the doubt, but its hard to forget).
If you get too caught up in running certain stuff to benefit the strengths of the players then you are limiting the possibilities pre-snap, and helping the defense out.
