Signature win

You know what really pisses me off though was watching the USC vs. Washington game. We had our chance against USC being a signature win, but we weren't even close to being prepared. Washington had its sh#t together and played them damn tough on their home field. It seems like every time a signature win could be looming, we enter the game scared to death and unprepared.
Watching U-Dub, or K-State, or Colorado - they just have more passion on defense. We've got better athletes, but those defenses are better coached and just fly to the ball. The Pinkshirts are just playing scared. We need a new defensive scheme (and coach) something bad.

Yeah, the CU/OU game looks more flukeish/past-looking than the Texas/KSU thrashing. You look past, you go in soft, get knocked back on your heels, struggle to recover, and then win/lose a close one. KSU handed it to Texas... 20 points isn't an "oops!" I hope that Texas and OU both did deserve their rankings and that the north is just that strong. Man, that would make me happy. Even if NU ends up having to take some tough games of their own, it would be worth it to be in a strong conference again! I got sick of the Big 12 North jokes on national radio last year!
Yeah, I have to agree the "looking past" excuse could fly for OU, but not Texas. Heck that's quickly becoming the road game I'm least worried about, whoda thunk that. It's definitely looking like the North is going take a step back towards credibility this year.
Exept for Nebraska, right? They're losing out, so you shouldn't have to worry at all about your Longhorns losing against a terribly coached NU team, right? Oh, but if they lose...WOW, they are horrible!

Oh...that's right...copouts...I understand now. Thanks for setting up the 'UT sucks at home, so if NU beats them in Austin, it should've happened anyway.'

Amazing how someone will do whatever it takes to make Nebraska look bad at all costs.

I nominate Nevada as our Signature win.

Actually, when I read the title of this thread, I thought someone was calling ISU our SigWin

...And the idea "nobody sleeps on nebraska" is also a joke
There's a lot of teams out there itching to payback for the decades of getting bullied around.

I'm surprised Florida isn't creaming themselves to try to schedule us while we're down..Maybe they don't see a need to hurry..Or they're afraid we'll hurt their Strength of Schedule..(Kidding, sortof)

"If we can't laugh at ourselves, who else will"? :nutz

IF we can get to the Big 12 champ game, at this point, a win over the south champ would be as close to a signature win as we will get, outside of a bowl game win against a top team.

none of this will happen if we lose in excess of 1 more game, so probably not worth worrying about for the rest of this season.

For people to be quite about Cally he needs to win the Big XII this year. I was at the game yesterday and our defense looked better, but our offense was sluggish. We need to get 'em both working correctly because we don't have anymore easy games. Let's hope we can pull this out because I'm worried about getting back to the Championship game right now.

(Did you mean the 3rd choice?)

I'm quite sure nobody wants the players to quit on Cally. :o

Gee, if Nunn doesn't fumble against Texas I guess some of you would have to dig up something else to hold over this coaching staffs head. We may be winning ugly but still winning. Signature win, you wait for that. I'll just keep enjoying any win we get.

GBR!!!

Missouri will be top 20 after this week

would that be a signature win? If Texas loses to K-State that game will lose its luster.

Beating Missouri would be a long, long, long way from a signature win. Missouri has done precisely zero on the national scene in football. If you were to ask 100 fans in each state across the nation (except Missouri) to list the top 10 current football programs --- well, I would be surprised if Missouri would receive a single vote. In fact, extend the poll to a top 20 and I still doubt Missouri would get any votes.

A signature win is not possible for NU this year (at least in the regular season). Because Texas has been exposed, even beating them would be less than signature (it might still be close but really the national response would just be that Texas is weak this year).

Now, if we play in the B12 Conference championship against say Oklahoma and beat them --- well that would be a signature win if Oklahoma wins all the rest of their games and is back in the top 5 -6 nationally.

But beating Missouri will not even warrant replays on ESPN and will generate yawns across the country. Losing to Missouri --- now that will get some attention. But beating them is not a big deal.
