Michigan was 9-4 with a January 1st Bowl Win over #9 Florida in 2007 the year that Carr was forced (Allegedly) to retire and the year before that they were 11-2. What showed that he was “ready” to retire and Solich wasn’t?

umm...the fact that solich is doing a damn fine job coaching ohio, facilities are being upgraded and he has them challenging for the league title and a contract extension. and lloyd carr is doing what exactly? STAYING RETIRED. dont forget solich wasnt very far removed from an appearance in a national title game, whether it was deserved or not, thats something lloyd wasnt sniffing.

In 2006 if Michigan had beaten Ohio State they would've played for the national championship. In fact probably should've been a rematch since Michigan's only loss was to the #1 Ohio State by 3.

i know, right? and if there wasnt that one second put back on the clock, i'd be planning a trip to phoenix, suh would have finished 3rd in the heisman, and Bo would have had a special done on him comparing him to Stoops and Saban, and would have been mentioned in the Notre Dame coaching search. Probably should have had an interview.

When TO left did you think it was time for him to retire? He didn’t take anymore coaching jobs and stayed away from the game for a few years (kind of like Lloyd Carr) until the whole AD thing came up.

I don’t see how a guy whose team just finished 9-4 ranked in the Top 20 for the 12th time in his 13 year career was showing that he was “ready” to retire. He had 6 years (including a National Championship) where they finished in the Top 10 and one of those Top 10 years was 2006, the year before he was “ready” to retire.

You say Solich isn’t that far removed from playing for a National Title (8 years), well when Carr “retired” he wasn’t that far removed from winning a National Title (10 years).

You can’t tell me that if some school like Ohio thought they could get Carr to come coach them that they wouldn’t try. The fact is he won’t go someplace like that so why would they even offer. Solich didn’t have a choice and he wanted to coach so badly that he jumped at that chance.

Whoa bud...your first point should show you why Nebraska's was the worst hire...

The fact that our retired, glorified and exalted coach, who hand-picked his successor, had to rise to the occasion because of the injustice done to the program as a whole, return as athletic director after, in my opinion, furthering his legacy and moving on by serving his country; to fix the situation should be evidence enough that Michigan, as a whole program, as a "HIRING," has NOTHING on us. This is all about the worst "hire." Not worst coach, coaching job, etc. About top to bottom failure. And when you look at what transpired at the entire University over the Callahan/Solich debacle, Michigan does not even come close. I dont know how you can sit there and argue that it doesnt.

how easy we forget solich was named coach of the year. that happens now? you take off and get jobs like richrod. michigans ordeal, history wise, athetic director wise, lineage wise, doesnt even begin to touch the debacle that went on at Nebraska. There is a legimate, good versus evil plot here, something someone could write a crap movie about.

Wasn't Rod the first choice while Callahan was at least Nebraskas 3rd choice (Stache. Nutt) Untill Rich Rod starts taking down every good record Michigan has like Callahan and company did in Nebraska in my opinion it's not even close.

 
Rich Rod was HIRED to win football games at Michigan just like Billy C was HIRED to do at NU. Callahan had more success his first 2 years then Rich Rod has had his. This alone shows me that as of right now the Rich Rod HIRING is worse then the Billy C one. Both took over Top 20 teams, however one made a bowl in year two and the other was 1-7 in Conference play in their 2nd year.

You have a point with what Stevie P did at NU, that being said the catagory is Worst Coaching Hire. It isn't Worst Firing of a Coach and the mess of a hiring process. If it was that then Stevie P would win hands down. But since it is Worst Coaching Hire IMO the Hiring of Rich Rod wins that award.

Les Miles was Michigan's #1 choice.

He already has the losing season one, throw on the back to back losing season one and the ending of a bowl streak one, and if there were any conference teams that they hadn't lost to in a few years the 1-7 record this year took care of that one.

agree to disagree then. because to me, someone asks me what the "worst hire" ive seen in my industry, i instantly go to the company names, the people that did the hiring, rather than the idiot they hired to do the job and subsequently eff it up. nobody remembers them. the company remains. i blame the company. screw-up wouldnt need the job if the company didnt create it.

I dont even know if Callahan was as high as 3rd in choices, i think it just came to a point the February rolled around and Petersucker had to get someone in there and there was Billber lookin for a job so he snagged him.
