Smith.....not good.

Comebacks from torn anterior cruciate ligaments usually range from six months to a year. Smith is at 5½ months. Nebraska, in desperate need of more inside presence, hopes this recovery comes in on the low end.

“I think he’s about three weeks away,” NU coach Tim Miles said.

Smith, in an interview Wednesday at the team’s Waikiki Beach hotel, was more optimistic.

“The way I feel, I think I could come back earlier than expected,” he said. “We’re just putting my body through different things to see how it feels. Right now I have to stay warm so it doesn’t get stiff.

“Still, I feel day to day. But we’re shooting for mid- to late-January.”

That would be huge/welcome mid-season addition. Team sorely needs an inside presence right now

Will be interesting to see how quickly he gets up to speed. We play at Wisconsin three weeks from today. Although we need a LOT of players to be playing a lot better before Smith will make much of a difference in that game.

True that more players need to step up but we sorely need a big guy
