So let's say Riley stays ...

If Riley stays, you'll see the fan base explode, the sellout streak end and the enthusiasm of fans go away.  Loved the Huskers for years, but hard to watch the constant excuse of a product he puts on the field.  We have some great kids on the team.  I feel bad many used their eligibility playing for this staff.

First off, Riley is gone.  Sure you can feel sorry for him.  He is a beaten cat right now.  He knows that it is over already.  Staff knows already.

Unforunately, this was a bad hire in many aspects.  Tremendously bad hire that was pointed out soon there after.  Most of Husker nation didn't have a clue who this guy was and didn't care.  Some of that was being kind of stupid.  He in a sense never had a chance, and then his first season he went 6-7.  He never proved the doubters wrong!  He should have had the biggest chip on his shoulders and want to prove this fan base wrong.  All he did was prove the majority of those who didn't like it, they were right.

This program is in need of this change.  End point.

I think Moose would require Riley to hire BIll Belichick as DC and Tony Dungy as OC.

And Mick Tingelhoff would be the new line coach.
I get what you are saying but Tony Dungy was more of a defensive coach during his time in the NFL. Just saying.

Before the Northwestern game, Riley had about a 5% chance of returning. He now has a 0% chance. It's painfully obvious this thing is not going in the right direction.

Riley’s not staying. This thread is moot.
Maybe not moot.  Assume Riley stays after he is fired.  How awkward would that be?  What do you say to him to encourage him to leave?  Is it possible to change the locks on the doors?  What if he refuses to go home?  Do you call security to escort him out?  These are questions I have no answers to.

NM- I have to ask, what in the world have you seen from Riley that leads you to believe this is anywhere near a working deal with just some minor (or major) adjustments?

Or can even be trusted to make decent hires on coordinators?

The sad part is your questions are more realistic than that posed in the OP. There is 0% chance Riley is retained. End of story. But there is a chance, no matter how slight, that he will barricade himself in his office or lurk in the shadows of Memorial Stadium for months on end. Probably not but a much better chance than Moos inviting him back.

Well, that is what I was getting at. He hasn't done that so why would or should Moos do it for him? Sorry, we really shouldn't even be taking this question serious at all. It's so far outside the realm of possibility unless Moos was hired to put the final nail in the coffin of Husker football.

Oops, I should read the OP before chiming in.

I'm a huge, long time fan. But  your comments that I highlighted in red are where it hurts me the most.  The team will always be here.  Coaches come and go.  But these kids hae one 4/5 year window to play, and it is just sad that some get stuck in a hopeless situation like this.
