So you are a recruit...

If you were being recuited for college football, what would sell you? What are the 5 things or so that would make you sign with a school?

For me

1. The coolness of the school, for instance, U of South Florida seems like it would be a great place to live for 5 years but its not UF or FSU.

2. Location: Maybe not that its close to home but maybe its just that the location rocks.

3. Girls/Friends I meet while being recruited.

4. Coaches: I have coached for a long time now, you basically have 3 types of coaches. Fun joking coach, serious all the time coach, old school coach with a heart of gold. At the D1 level, most of the guys are very good at what they do then there are a few that are elite.

5. Life after Football: I look at this two ways, the first being the degree, I mean, Stanford, Northwestern, Ivy League, nuff said. The second part, can you stay in that state and be a hero. In Nebraska, if you play football here and are even just kind of known, you pretty much can get every job you apply for, you can tell stories about the "good old days" on your sales trips or radio gigs, you are usually going to be okay.

What about you guys?

A lot of influence as to what school a recruit chooses will depend on the personality of the guy and on the support system he has——that is, who he has advising him.

As for me, if I was talented enough to land a D1 scholie, but maybe wasn’t likely to be playing Sundays I’d go for the value of the degree. I’d pick a place like Stanford over NU even though NU has a better football program, simply because a Stanford degree is likely to be more valuable. But if I’m a kid who has a decent chance of developing into an NFL player, well, NU would get the nod over the likes of Stanford.
