Spring Special Teams

Fyfe never really impressed me much, but if hes still struggling Nebraska now has some pretty good qb coaches to help him.alot can happen between now and first game.

But he is 4 or 5 in depth chart when it comes to natural QBing or athletic ability. If he does not get more reps with the first team, he could be a transfer candidate.

Wow! Bondi calling out this staff.
Are you sure we aren't reading into that? He could be making a joke about what kickers always do at practice? Although putting that pic and comment on twitter would suggest he understands the media about as well as Bo did.

RS frosh Glenn Irons as well as true frosh Avery Anderson and Eric Lee getting reps at returning punts.

Would REALLY like to see Irons and DPE returning kicks. Probably mostly DPE on punts but those two back on kickoffs would be a great combo.

Read said he's pretty hands off with punters and kickers. A few pointers but not really getting into changing things.

Of course, I wouldn't at all mind Newby getting a shot as well. Might depend on how much he's in the rotation at RB.

One of the things that Read was a little concerned about coming in: All of Nebraska's walk-ons. He's used to a roster of 70 or 80. How would he get an honest evaluation of all these guys? That was the question going in. ... Now, though, as it turns out, he's assessed each of them and he's found that he actually has several possible contributors for special teams spots. Some may earn a starting position. Others might just work on the practice squads. But here are a few names to watch: sophomore linebacker Chris Weber, junior linebacker Garrett McKay, sophomore tight end Luke McNitt, sophomore receiver Christian Bailey, junior receiver Lane Hovey, junior fullback Mitch McCann, and junior running back Jordan Nelson.

Hopes dashed .... Read said DPE will be used too much on offense to be returning kickoffs. Only punts. Hello Mr. Irons.

Yeah, it's gone now. It was something about Bondi making 2/2 and Brown making 13/20. It seemed to me that the implication was Brown was getting all the looks even though he wasn't kicking that well.
