Stanley Jean Baptiste to Seahawks

RENTON – The Seahawks added an intriguing cornerback prospect to their practice squad on Thursday, signing former second-round pick Stanley Jean-Baptiste.

Listed at 6 foot 3 and 218 pounds, the 25-year-old Jean-Baptiste has the size that Seattle likes in its cornerbacks.

Jean-Baptiste was drafted 58th overall by New Orleans in 2014 but played sparingly as a rookie, appearing in only four games. He was waived before the start of the season, went unclaimed and ended up on the Lions' practice squad. Detroit released him earlier this week.

This story from The Times-Picayune in New Orleans includes quotes from Saints coach Sean Payton that indicated the decision to part ways with Jean-Baptiste was about his lack of development. The story also noted that Jean-Baptiste was considered a raw prospect because he began his college career as a wide receiver, though he played cornerback during his final three seasons at Nebraska.

The Seahawks had an opening on their 10-member practice squad, which is now full with the addition of Jean-Baptiste.

Well, if there was one place SJB was gonna make it as a DB, it'd be Seattle. Good for him. Hope he develops into something.

I don't personally like the Seahawks, their swagger, whatever you want to call it... But damn if Carroll isn't a hell of a coach. Especially defensively.

I looked up what a practice squad player makes and it is $6,600 per week minimum. I guess a guy could scrape by on that.

Good for SJB. He was let go awfully early by NO for being a 2nd round pick!
