Starting Tailback?

Does anyone think that the move of Jackson back to running back and the recruitment or Wilson means the coaches aren't exactly sold on Lucky and Glenn just yet? The recruitment of Wilson made me wonder if they weren't bringing him in as insurance for the position. As hyped as Lucky and Glenn were coming in, we all saw things about thier game that kept them off the field. Blocking and recievingare two things that come to mind. I have read several articles about Wilson and everyone of them mentioned his ability to block and catch the ball out of the backfield. He seems to be this years Taylor in that he was bought in to meet a specific need.

Glenn didnt receive all the hype like marlon did from rivals and all that. Glenn was pretty much the sleeper. Lucky looks lost out there on the field and if he doesnt make serious strides in the offseason there is no way in hell as of right now he is the starter.

Just my thoughts:

I believe that Lucky will be the feature RB.... (Sean Callahan from rivals stated that BC has already made this "comment" public)...... Glenn will be an 8-10 carry a game rb.....

I am still confused why they moved L Jackson to the backfield..... it is probably because with BJ down, we only have 2 deep...... I see them using Leon as a Reggie Bush type of runner (NO, I am not saying he is Reggie)....

Wilson will come is a make an impact.... The feature RB will be between Lucky and Wilson....whoever can pick up the blitz, pass protect, catch the ball will be the guy that leads this offense.... Glenn will be a nice "power" back and gets 10 carries a game as stated earlier.

 
I'm just pysched that we have such great running back depth. We haven't been this deep in years. I like the addition of Wilson. The guy's a stud. Think he will push Lucky for the starting job. you'll definitely be seeing Wilson on the field with his share of touches. I see Glenn as a short yardage specialist.

I'm worried that Leon will be lost in all of this. He has such great athletic ability, but he will be hard pressed to earn a starting position. Hope he sees some significant playing time next year...hope he doesn't become another Bobby Newsome. Jackson's surgery raises concerns whether he will be full strength when the season starts.

I also think that with an improved OL, our running game will reestablish itself.

Rotating the RBs is an option, but I think that you need a #1 go-to guy - like Ross -to carry the load. And, I think that will be Lucky. He showed glimpses of his promise during the Kansas game when returning kicks. I think he is the real deal and the coaches are sold on him. He just needs a hole to run through every once in awhile, and he has to show some patience waiting for those hole to open.

I think the reason that we took Wilson is that he is a tremendous player, and we were using the take the best player out there approach regrardless of position that New England does on a few of our schollies. I wouldnt be surprised to see Wilson and Lucky battling for the starting role. Why no Cody you ask? One very good reason. While he may be a very good physical back with quick feet that can cosistantly tote the ball for a good amount of yardage, he doesnt have break away speed and wont be able to run away from those second and third level defenders. That doesnt mean that he isnt a very very valuable back, and he is a great guy (i have met him), but I just dont think you give the guy 25 carries a game, because on carry 19, he isnt going to take it 64 yards for the score. Just my thoughts.

 
If it helps... I have a friend on the team and I asked him about this situation. He said that Glenn was by far a better back than Lucky but it is yet to be seen who will play.

 
Wilson definitely has the look of a good back. Good size and speed. I would be surprised if he didn't get a good chunk of the carries in 06.

 
as i said, this should be a fun battle to see who gets the top spot....lots of speculation, but a long ways from being settled......let's watch and enjoy!

Why is there this misconception Cody Glenn is slow? Some of the greatest running backs to ever play were not very fast(Emmitt Smith for one), but took advantage of their abilities to take it to the house. I think the power of Cody is what will allow him to rumble for 64 yards on carry 19 because the defense will get tired of getting trucked. It's pretty amazing how he has gotten labled as a short yardage back when he has not had the opportunity to anything else in his short career. I think he will be a huge asset to the Husker program in the years to come.

 
I think the starting spot is Lucky's to lose. Glenn will get a lot of playing time on short yardage situations where power is needed. I think Lucky's speed, illusiveness, and year of experience with the offense will win out, but he better watch out for Wilson. Once Wilson gets a handle on this offense, he will be a weapon.

Could be. I have been reading all year that at RB, Lucky's a guy who needs more than a carry here and there to really get in a groove. It would be nice, though, if we could stick him in at split out, get the ball to him on the oustide, have him CATCH IT, then see what he can do..

 
I think KW will get a good look if he can master the offense. My father lives in Liberal, KS and has seen him play and says he is a specimen. I think Glenn showed more this season than Lucky. I don't know how much of the Offense they have down, but they need to become acclimated with it to be productive. Glenn may not be the fastest on the field, but he is a good physical back that can carry the ball 25-30 times if needed. Like mentioned before, it all depends on who masters the offense and is able to pick up the blitz. Hopefully not as much as last year cuz our OL will be improved. Lucky just never impressed me last year, he was unable to get in the open field. His only highlight was a KO return that was called back. Hopefully he will pick it up and be the player he was hyped to be.

 
Question:

How many "passing" downs or plays did Glenn play ?

I am having trouble thinking of many plays, if any, that Glenn was in the game and NU threw the ball....... Lucky was in for a number of different sets, formations, and passing/running plays...

As I stated earlier, Lucky if better suited to be the "feature" back, like Ross was... Lucky appears to be more versatile....... Glenn will get a lot of work between the tackles (8-12 plays a game)..... Lucky will carry and catch the ball approx. 20 times a game.... Pass blocking will be key....

Wilson is the unknown here..... He and Lucky will compete in the fall to be the feature.

To me, blocking behind the line of scrimage isn't necessarily all about size and physicality. Ross showed that. You have to have the blocking schemes down. Be in the right place in the right time when the blitz comes.

I have a feeling Lucky has had more exposure to this than Glenn has. I believe he has been in on more passing plays than Glenn has. Jackson has been injured most of the last year, so I am not sure where he is with it. Wilson might be coming in know what's going on, considering he played in a type of offense that might use the blocking RB/HB.
