Not to burst your bubble but Joe Montana wasn't a real great QB stat wise in college. I am pretty sure he only started his senior year. Montana's college career I would equate to something like Tom Brady's. Not bad, but nothing special.

I am not sure what "Joe Montana" you are thinking of, but he was a very good college QB. As a junior, he led ND to the National Championship in 1977 (11-1) record and followed that up with a 9-3 record and #6-7 ranking as a Sr. in 1978.

This was a different era, so his stats may not be great, but it is a stretch to say he wasn't a great college QB.

 
Freeman was and is an interesting case. From the neck down, he's a hell of a QB prospect. From the neck up, he's a complete basketcase. I'm a Bucs fan and had some real reservations when they drafted him so early. Their then-coach Raheem Morris was familiar with Freeman from his stint coaching at K-State and seemed to have quite the mancrush on him. From what I hesrd an read about, Freeman has some real personal issues, including a lack of maturity, some questions about his sexuality and a possible issue with drugs. Between being coached by Ron Prince and then a completely clueless staff in Tampa, he received about the worst coaching possible. But he also didn't do himself any favors, prefering the party scene to the practice field or the film room. So there are a lot of reasons that Freeman's pro career flamed out. But in my view the biggest factor is that he just didn't want it badly enough. At that level, the unwillingness to put in the work simply can't be overcome.

Freeman was a high school senior in 2005. Ganz was a redshirt freshman in 2005. Ganz did not throw a TD pass in 2005, he didn't even play in a game. Ganz says the TD in question was in 2006. Freeman was at KState in 2006. So Joe's story is a lie.

this is actually correct. Kudos to you sir. Usually im quite prompt on this kind of stuff. But this never crossed my mind.
 
Ganz i guess should realize before ge says stuff on radio to thousands upon thousands of people that there numerous encyclopedia brains runnin around.

 
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in hoping that he genuinely confused a detail, or wanted to embellish the details to tell a story that had the same "lol Josh Freeman" result or something.

 
I'll give him the benefit of doubt and here is why.

A few years back a read a story about professional athletes who frequently get stories construed very frequently. These stories would usually pertain to game type situations. (For example: I threw the game winning TD against San Fransisco in the first game of the 1996 season) when in reality, that actually happened in game 12 in the 1998 season.

It was really an interesting story, I wish I could find it for you and post it.

I realize this is about a non football related incident, but it still has to do with his very long tenure in Nebraska, so it makes sense to me how he could get this detail confused.

I just have a hard time believing he would lie about a story just to get some listeners on the radio. Plus, I dislike Ganz a lot.

 
Yeah, I didn't get knocked silly in a bowl game against Clemson and I still get my memories mixed up sometimes.

Hah, surprisingly I don't recall that article basing it on concussion issues. It was actually more geared towards baseball, but I believe it had an all-sport feel to it as well.

It was really cool actually. They interviewed several players asking them specific details from their careers about big moments and they had things from their story mixed up all over the place.
