I've always been for lower base salary and bigger incentives.

That sounds good in theory, but I think you still have to make the base salary comparable to the base salary to other head coaches.

LOL tell this to the people ready to burn Wall St. bankers...

In any event, I think it's awesome that TO is taking steps to get this corrected. When some of our assistants do leave (and they will), we want the coaching community to regard Nebraska as both a great football program AND a place where you can make a great living so that when we go looking for new assistants, we can get the best and the brightest.

I believe protocol here is that you wait until the coach beats Nevada, only then do you work a new deal.

As for determining Pelini’s salary, Osborne said the pressure that comes with the job in such a football-crazed state is certainly something taken into account.
