Lil Red,
Sure has started a conflict hasn't he. I think I saw him on his first road game. UCLA 13-12 was the score, I can not remember the year.
I had just spent and hour in the UCLA alumni group telling how professional Nebraska is about football. ON and on I went. I made several friends at games prior (I was a UCLA season ticket holder then) and felt I actually had credibility with these people.
But alas out fo the North endzone appears lil Red. I really do not think I have been more embarassed in my life. In this group, he became BOB. In my group he will always be known as BOB. Needless to say I was a hater instantly. Trojans have traveller, Seminoles have the warrior, even Hawaii has a warrior, we have BOB.
But as time has gone by, I see the affect he has on the little kids that are setting on mom's lap, not happy to be at the game, their eyes light up just like ours do after a long touchdown drive. He is the transfer ticket from very young Husker fans to the full blown ones we have become.
At the USC tail gate, I had friends that had a 8 foot lil Red(BOB). More pictures of SC fans were take by BOB than anywhere else in our group. Everyone wanted a picture with BOB (Lil Red) in it. So it has it's place I guess. I have learned to live with (BOB). But both of our Mascots leave alot to be desired for one the most storied football programs of all time. But then we have the Ohio State Buckeye, that may even be worse.
