Tale of the Tape: FAU

Hail Varsity's Grant Muessel takes a look at game film with a coach, getting an inside view on what went right and what went wrong against the Owls.

Tale of the Tape: FAU

Offensive coordinator Tim Beck said during fall camp that your average Husker fan wouldn’t be able to notice much of a difference in Nebraska’s new simplified offense this season. Judging by Saturday’s destruction of Florida Atlantic, it looks like Beck may have been right on.

Coach however, is obviously not your average fan.

The first thing Coach brought up was the pre-snap options from Tommy Armstrong when the Huskers lined up in the pistol formation. Based on Saturday, it looks like a large chunk of Nebraska’s new “multiplicity” comes from the pistol. You’ll see Armstrong read the defense and make his decision – swipe to his right or left behind his back to motion the I-back into more of a shotgun formation.

They have gifs showing several positives & negatives from the game.

I'm really liking Hail Varsity as a source. They have some pretty solid reporting there, their photo pages are fantastic, and the stats Brandon Vogel dishes out are my kind of thing. Oh yeah - no paywall.

EDIT - gotta love it - saunders & I start the exact same article at the exact same time.

Great minds and all that. I agree on HV. Plus, they aren't locked behind a paywall like some certain publications....

Thanks for sharing. I think we are seeing the advantages if an athletic quarterback over an athlete playing quarterback.

We shall see if it can be done against decent competition.

I think there's a lot more to it than that. Even the Ganz-led offense never looked as crisp as the Huskers did against FAU.

One thing I really liked in particular about that 3 GIF is the pass protection. Abdullah is sent up for protection and ends up just kind of standing there with no one to team on since the line pretty much put everybody away.
