so I have read a ton of threads with people talking about the stuff mentioned in the title and have been amused by much of it. lets start with recruiting and the "stars" most college football fans that I know that are not NU fans live and die by the rivals and to a lesser extent scout rankings. then you have the old school NU fans tha say they are totally worthless and that TO never had stars. i think that if you are willing to look past the bs you would see the truth is somewhere in the middle. while the "stars' are not the end all be all, the do hold some weight. does that mean a 5 star will always be an all american and a 2 star will always be a scrub? of course not. these recruiting networks are NOT perfect, and if you have been around sports(keep that phase in mind your going to here it again) you know that things can happen. kids can get burnt out. girlfriends can get pregnant. INJURIES. death to family members. getting put at the wrong position. not a good fit for the scheme. getting stuck behind a great player. bad grades. not adapting to your new home. as the son of a college coach I have seen all of these things effect kids that could really play. they are also humans, and are not perfect
which brings us to talent. we have talent here. enough talent to win... and win now. not win a NT, but to win say....9-10 games.
which brings me to my next topic coaching. how can I say that we can win 9-10 games if we were so bad last year? how can you say we have talent when we looked so bad last year?? AGAIN if you have ever been around sports you will know that this happens ALL OF THE TIME. at EVERY level. why? a team will have all of the talent in the world but will not perform at all(sound familiar?) our problem last year was more than just scheme. it was the in ability to coach. running the right scheme to fit your players. having the right players in the right positions. having your players prepared mentally AND physically for games. last year I saw a bunch of soft, out of shape, out of position, confused kids. and it lead to the worse thing that can happen to a coach. they didnt believe in him. that the most important thing you have to do as a coach. they have to buy in to what you are selling. and that is why the effort wasnt there last year. AGAIN, anyone who has ever been around sports has seen this happen before.
so that brings us to this year. I said this team could win 9-10 games..... so what is my predition?? 7 wins. I dont think Bo is to the point as a coach to bring that much out of a team, and to be honest our luck has not been that good as of late. I think that we could very easily only win 6, but we could win 8 or even 9(bets case scenario imo) if we get the right bounces and stay healthy.
NOW if I could go back and grab 1995 TO?? this is a 8-10 win team again depending on our luck and injuries.
