As a tangent to the tangent thread I just want to point out how encouraging it was for Riley to identify an underperforming area (defense), and then address it. As I've said before, I'm seldom in favor of firing the head coach due to the cost of retooling and losing a recruiting class. But it seems like replacing an underperforming assistant--or coordinator--is a great way to jumpstart a team. Riley has made a couple of good personnel moves this past year to bolster his staff. And that's exactly the sort of thing I expect from the head coach at a place like Nebraska. We don't need or want a coordinator as HC. We want a CEO capable of attracting top notch assistant coaches and coordinators, and then managing them.
