Taylor Named B1G Offensive Player of the Week

Hell yeah! MSU's D coordinator complimented Taylor by saying he's faster than Dennard. He pretty much condescended DRob and gave props to Taylor for his speed. It was a nice compliment for a NEB QB who had a clutch win.
IMO, taylor is faster, but dennard is shiftier. you'll see dennard escape the pocket more, and gather up 3-5 yards where taylor might just make it back to the line of scrimmage, but unless it's a complete defensive breakdown he won't be taking off for 60+. When taylor gets into the secondary however, he's gone.

Congrats to T-Magic! He carried this one on his back to a victory. The dude is money when we're down in the 4th qtr, and the game's on the line. :thumbs :

This may not be a good thing if we are relying too much on Taylor.
I'm surprised that this would be your takeaway.

When Taylor breaks a 70 yard TD run...that's just him being faster than everyone else on the field. Other running QBs may get hauled down in the backfield on those plays or caught by a safety, but Taylor breaks 'em all the time. Those runs probably factor in greatly to him getting these awards.

But the fact that he's statistically the best passer in the B1G is reason enough for the accolades. Those stats *prove* he's distributing to his teammates and making them involved to be successful. So I don't think the comparison to Braxton works at all.

Crazy to think that Taylor has been named the B1G Ten Player of the Week 4 times this year (plus one last year). Braxton Miller has ONE ever, and he is talked of as a Heisman candidate and the best player in the B1G. I am not saying I disagree, just dumbfounding. Taylor is great, and he could be even better.

Congrats Taylor! We're lucky to have you.

:zoom EAT MY DUST!
The only thing I see is Michigan State going derp. How do you let four players get taken out of a play by one receiver?

On that note, hell of a job by Kenny!

It's not my takeaway, our coaches are doing well to balance our offense (the part of my paragraph you chose not to quote). My point was directed toward a tendency on HB that I've noticed. The "Just run the damn ball" crowd shows up when we throw some INTs. It happens almost as predictably as a 4th qtr Husker comeback. Even the BTN guys have chimed in saying we need to run more when our passing is failing (I believe post OSU game). Given our offense, there is a finite number of ways to run the RBs therefore that implicitly puts more running plays on the QB. If we can avoid risking injury to Taylor, we should continue to pass and use our RBs for running. If the defense is giving T-mart the run like MSU did, turn him loose. Taylor was untouched on most of his runs. Low risk of injury. This is in stark contrast to MI, where Denard is relied upon to run through the middle and other plays where he will definitely get tackled. I believe Urban recognized this too and is passing more and less Braxton running but I haven't watched too many OSU games lately. We are ahead of the curve. Our INTs are disappointing but as long as we win games I'm hopeful that they are learning experiences for better QB decisions and play calling going forward. We need an effective passing attack.

Great post, 4skers. Us being "ahead of the curve" with Taylor is something that should propel us into being able to have an awesome regular season record next year. Really, we're on route to have an excellent regular season record this year, too.

And thankfully the "just run the ball" crowd is wrong in the sense also that even though Taylor continues to struggle to a degree this season with deciphering secondary coverage & decision making, etc., Beck and Ganz are hopefully working those mistakes out of him through the experience of it all (as you mentioned).

Personally I thought coining the phrase "It happens almost as predictably as a 4th qtr Husker comeback" was the highlight of the post.

Congrats Taylor! Getting this award after throwing 3 picks just shows what an amazing display he put on vs MSU.

Want some awesome Taylor stats? Everyone knows Taylor is now the all time leader for total offense now...

but he is also

Has the most total offensive yards by a freshman at Nebraska

Has the most total offensive yards by a sophmore at Nebraska

Is 5 yards from having the most total offensive yards by a Junior at Nebraska

Is 189 yards away from being the all time passing leader at Nebraska

Needs 5 Passing Touchdowns to be Nebraska's all time leader.

Needs 203 yards to have the 2nd most offensive yards in one season at Nebraska.

Has twice as many 4th quarter comebacks as any QB in Husker history.

Dude can ball.
