Terry Joseph articles in OWH & LJS

His comment that we have more size and athletic ability than Tennessee is interesting... since he's going out and offering several of the kids he had offered at Tennessee. I wonder if that was more of a political statement or if it meant we have more talented players than Tennessee had... meaning we bring in a lot more players with talent.

I just find it interesting if he thought our guys are bigger and more athletic... why he would extend offers to the guys he was getting at Tennessee that were "smaller" and "less athletic"

Because that was all he could get? I am sure he offered bigger and better players too... they just went elsewhere.

Remember... recruiting is not about who you want... it is about who you can get. You go after the best, the next best, and the next rung down too... and hope the people you get are in the top rung. But at the end of they day, you settle for and work with those you actually get.

Many are asked... few will come.

Places like Tennessee and Nebraska are not going to land who they want (that is their #1 guy at a position) that often --- the top recruiting schools do that more often.

This is one of the things I found most interesting:

But he researched the Huskers and talked with cousins Mickey and Vance Joseph. Mickey played quarterback at Nebraska and is now interim head coach at Langston University. Vance played quarterback at Colorado and is now the defensive backs coach with the Houston Texans.

"When I called Vance, he told me, 'Why haven't you left yet?'" Terry Joseph said. "That kind of made me feel like, 'Here we go.'"

If you look at the guys we have in the secondary, we are bigger and more athletic than a lot of people.

He had inexperience to work with, mostly because of injuries. That's the key point that nobody really brings up. Sanders left behind 3 starters in Osborne, Dennard, and Cassidy. Evans was a guy who showed great promise when he got his chances, but regressed under Raymond (as did Cassidy).
Evans was part of a good play that we all remember, but he struggled and was benched for Anthony West. That perception is just untrue, I guess.

Several good plays against Missouri. I remember him breaking up a few passes and making several tackles in that game. And yes, one huge stop. He was a true freshman, so I wasn't altogether shocked he struggled some. But I didn't expect him to regress over the next year and a half.

Reading these articles, whether its a reality or not, I don't think we'll have to worry about throwing his boys under the bus, under any circumstance. I like him for recruiting as well, but I also like that he will work with what he has and seems to have his players' backs.

that's more than could be said for Raymond, the sniveling little snot!

He was benched, that year, because the coaches evidently didn't feel the same way.

During the Iowa State game? I remember him starting that game, then Dennard was back the following game.

I really like the part about how our new DB coach has a more Marvin Sanders like approach.
My fave part as well. Maybe in this thread someone said Sanders was more X and O's ie getting in the right place at the right time and making the play. Raymond more a technician ie foot work, hip swivel etc..... Experience or not, we took a huge step back last year.

Look like a great addtion to the staff ...........strange days when we even know who the D-Back coach is. I figure that is becasue times change with media, the news and for me getting older but as a kid growing up in Linclon Tom and Mcbride were the only two coaches.

True but we also sent 3 DBs one in the first round to the NFL following the '10 season. So the guys that took over while they had played some weren't used to being starters. There is a tremendous difference between seeing a few snaps in a back-up role versus being the #1 guy.
